If you have Windows 7 (or higher), I believe you can also right-click the Path of Exile folder and choose to "Restore Previous Version" (if enabled) which allows you to roll-back contents to a specific snapshot. Sometimes that can help rather than downloading the whole thing again.

thank you for this.

i had a full backup, about 800mb's of patches ago and was going to use this to fix this problem I had, but restoring the previous allowed me to only get the last patch ~150mb.

and for anyone else doing this, the "restore" option was greyed out for me. I simple opened the restore directory by double clicking the the restore point I wanted, and it opened a windows explorer of this, where I simply copied that Content.ggpk to my current PoE directory, ran PoE, and got the 150mb update
Restore points will restore Windows to an earlier state competely and, when enabled, are created automatically when software or updates are installed.

Shadow copies are basically restore points on file level, so this is a far better option than restore points for the content file.

However you might want to consider third party freeware to create automated backups of the file. There are a loot nice tools for this that also support incremental and differential backups or scheduled or automated 1 on 1 sync options.

This worked great. Was happy too, because if I needed to re-download this game file, I wouldn't be able to play it. Cost to much money to download games. I remember one Christmas I bought a game, had to download it (even thought I bought a box copy from a store in hopes there would be a copy of the game on DVD) and of course, after you download it, it wants to download a huge 1 or 2 gb patch, and come time for the internet bill, the company slaps an extra $50 on my bill. Appreciate the tip about reverting to old files via this method. Was never aware this was possible. Good tip to know for future knowledge.
In game name is Cobrauh.

I too have Windows 10, and was playing the game without any issues before the update from last night. I'm currently reinstalling the content.ggpk (entire game) again to see if that works, but based on the responses I just saw, I'm not too optimistic.

If anyone has a link to an official statement from GGG regarding why this is happening, I'd love you if you could share that. I'm sure I'm not alone in my curiosity and frustration from this most recent patch.

Edit: I *just* realize that this post was from two years ago. But I guess my question remains relevant, since the issue just happened to me

one thing you can do to avoid this problem in the future is to periodically (usually before patching) is made a backup copy of the content file in another directory, so if it gets corrupted you can copy the backup over and try patching again. there is a fairly decent chance that your content file will become corrupted at some point if you are playing the game long-term and have patched the file many times, so it's always good to keep a backup!
I too have this issue after last nights patch. I tired a system restore and now am trying to reinstall so I am hoping that works...
My launcher gets stuck at "Checking resources..." indefinitely (Tested up to 4 hours at a time) and will not load.

Nothing on any found threads fixes it for me. HELP!

THANK YOU!! This happened to me just now and I fixed it with a snapshot from 6 days ago! Saved me a massive download. Cheers!
