They marketed it as quite different from what it really is... I mean how hard was it to instal a hostile button, which made the Diablo 2 so succesfull.. After all suppose to be a d2 clone...

When was PoE supposed to be a "clone" of D2? No, really. I was also not aware that the hostile or dueling button was synonymous with oPvP. Interesting you should mention EVE too, which has a very distinct no-PvP chunk to it and, even according to CCP themselves, a vast majority of the playerbase stays within the PvP free zone during their playtime.

there is no PVP free zone in eve.
Moment you undock your space ship you are at risk of being attacked.

There are zones where engaging in PVP is harder and may trigger a law enforcement responce, but done right easily avoidable.

Most my kills in EVE online come from the so called no PVP zone
