Pretty well finished with POE.

20 fusings isn't really a lot for an end game player. Yes it's all relative though and if you're not quite at end game then I can see how it seems like a lot of currency to just throw away.

If you go about it the right way though, then it's pretty easy to get 40-50 fusings every couple of days but the bad news is that even when accumulating fusings at this rate it can still be a timely and frustrating process in getting those links to join.

Slurms is right in that a 5L from 6S has slightly better odds of linking than a 5L from 5S but the different isn't that great. Luck is a bigger factor in getting those stupid sockets to link and you're either lucky and get it done cheaply or you're not.
OB: BazzVone - 83 Dual Spork Totem Templar /w CI and minions
CB: BazzVfourteen - 80 Dual Spork Totem Templar /w CI
CB: BazzVtwo - 73 Dual Spork Totem/LS Templar
CB: BazzVseven - 76 Lightning Strike Mara
CB: BazzVfive - 78 Lightning Strike Mara
You think you have it bad? Guess what, people have used over 1000 fusing to get 5l, and over 3000 fusings to get 6l, let alone 20. I agree, its very discouraging unless you're pretty much a billionaire, but 5l and 6l are supposed to be very high-end, end game items, and not something a new player gets right off the bat.
Even though I don't agree with most of what he said, he's right that a lot of the ultra rare orbs that take you forever to farm might yield nothing good after using them. Regal ? Exalt ? The game would be tons more fun if these were more common. Why is Blessed orb so rare ? Why are GPCs only +1% quality per use (better just trade with them than use them).

The game's economy itself is very balanced. The issue is the chat system, is not. The trading systems and institutions etc, are not yet in place. There is no universal, instinctive place to trade fluidly, which is what the economy needs.

Likely, all the economy needs in and of itself, is a better trade system, such as the one mentioned by the devs, where trading via the website, will be enabled. Throw in trade channels, and you have a perfectly balanced economy, for the target audience.

However, one thing needs to be understood, that isn't commonly understood. This game is all about luck and lottery, it's the driving factor and balancing factor of the game. If you don't like it, leave. I don't say this to be rude, but it's like saying "Don't kill me" on a PvP server.
It's a well known fact that the whole gamut of 2nd tier orbs is broken to fuck. I honestly can't believe people are still defeding them - oh, wait, it's the same two people who were defending them in the last thread... and the one before that... and the one before that... and the one before that... and the one before that... and the one before that... and the one before that... and the one before that... and the one before that... and the one before that... and the one before that... and the one before that... and the one before that...

Christ almighty, invent some other hook for 24/7 players, basic crafting beyond level 20 IS NOT the exclusive privilege of 24/7 elitists. By level 40 a player should be messing with rares at the exact same level they were messing with blues. It's like an earthquake sized schism in gameplay expectations which basically renders level 40-70 as nothing more than DEAD SPACE.

I like this post, +1 for balls

First, define 2nd tier orbs. As to the people defending them, we are defending them because you dont need perfect or even good items to beat the game. A correspondingly larger time investment is necessary, as to the type of item with x mod you want on it. It's simple economic law.

Crafting is very very easy to accomplish. Click an orb on an applicable item, you just crafted something. It is the sole province of everyone in this game.

Now, whether it's more time/cost effective to trade for an item, craft an item or find/farm it, is subjective. Anyone can do any of the above options, however, making them all equal for all players, is impossible, as their are too many variables to account for.
Haha, Cronk makes another good point, despite his very harsh way of writing it... The "end game" economy as it stands is geared towards a minority of player who either play waaay more than they should, or are in the top 10 of every race, stacking the rewards... (and we know that's a very small pool of players!).

No, I can define 2nd tier in many different ways, many of which, you wouldn't understand, due to the fact that the tiers change slightly depending on who you talk to.

As to balancing around the top; that's simply the only way to balance. If you balance around the bottom, the game either ends up dead in the water within a week or three for most players, or the top players still hoard such a large amount of wealth, they can exploitatively destroy the entire gaming economy.
casuals like you and most of the replies in this thread it seems, will benefit from that end game economics come 2-3+ months into OB. You have the people who say "keep things hard to make" crafting their own gear heavily looking for best in slot gear. As time goes on this crowd of crafters grows but the amount of people buying their left overs or stuff that's good just not for them, never gets smaller.

A few months in people who have done nothing but MF come out of the woodwork and start buying up the expensive gear. You can see it now on default, people who you would never guess had alot of orbs are bidding 50-150 gcps on items. As time goes on, mediocre stuff like good rings, ammys, other gear and even decent rolled 5l chest all go down in value as everyone has them or better. These things that would have been incredible in the first month of the ladder sell for dirt. Fuck, most casuals with 1 gcp can go into merciless right now and get better gear than I had on during the 1 week race after the default reset. I took that gear to 77, most pieces I couldn't sell for an alch.

Casual players, if they open themselves to trading, can have a very easy merciless experience. The hardest thing they have to do is learn the value of orbs (which ratios and PCs are constantly given out in merci) and learn what gear they are looking for.

Do people need to start making videos/threads on how to make a good toon for 1 gcp worth of orbs or less like the D3 videos for 1m gold or less?

Trust me guys, if you want good gear with no crafting involved, come back in march during OB and oh boy you'll have a nice selection for a very low price.
