HC: How have you died and what did you learn?

Hey all,

Throughout my HC career (since around February), i've died about 6 times and lost lots of pretty pixels. I thought I'd make a thread about how I died and what I learned, and hear your stories too.

In rough chronological order:

Death #1:Witch-11-Ship Graveyard Cave

Cause of death: Flicker, being an uber scrub
Lesson Learned: life matters, flicker mobs hurt :(

Death #2: Ranger-67-Tropical Island Map

Cause of death: Rhoas charging me to death
Lesson Learned: Don't map till unyou're ready, don't play drunk, be careful of chargers

Death #3: Marauder-77-Lunaris 1

Cause of death: Blackguard elite chargers chunking me down
Lesson Learned: Don't get to cocky, BE CAREFUL OF CHARGERS

Death #4: Marauder-53-Rocky Climb

Cause of death: was surrounded, didn't play smart and log out
Lesson Learned: Farm merc ledge till late 50s unless you're totally OP

Death #5: (Onslaught)Duelist-63-Chamber of Sins 3

Cause of death: quicksilvered into a room, insta-gibbed by caster skellies
Lesson Learned: Be careful of Sins 3 even if you faceroll fellshrine, don't do merc Sins 3 with low lightning resist

Death #6: (Onslaught)Duelist-78-Docks

Cause of death: I thought my cat was pooping on the floor so I quickly logged out and went to deal with it. When I look back my character was dead with the Escape menu open :/
Lesson learned: ALWAYS be sure you're either in town or logged out when you afk. This death hurt. A lot.

Died at lvl 66 with my ele cleave on Onslaught

Cause : Instagibed by captain aurelianus with 3000 hp and 50% dmg reduction
I learned to not play melee in path of exile

Get Instant / Half-Instant Life Flasks.

Take Resist Flasks with you if you go against heavy elemental hitters.

Don't run into Rooms without light, because they are dark and full of terrors.

lv 76 Onslaught. Mowed down by charging blue rhoas out of the short screen angle, just enough time to mash pots which didn't help at all.

No matter how easy the map (and it was easy), don't get uber casual and start charging around. Lead with the totem.

lvl 51 onslaught mara

was really close to lvl 52 and it was time to go to bed so i said k this rare golem and i should hit 52 somehow i hit X in the fight had vitality linked to bloodmagic ( wanted to lvl both gem on alternate weaponslot)
vitality appeared on my left mouseslot

bam dead ...looked and thought hmm wtf just happened saw it and laughed hard

since that day i dont link my BM gem on alternate slots anymore

1) disconnect while at 50% hp and with discharger + 3 random mobs on me.
lesson: change isp when the contract runs out in 10 months, in the meantime try to group up as much as possible and make only tanky chars with very high hp regen

2) 1-shot by crematorium piety after having 3 shock stacks
lesson: face her with max light res and shock removing pots or the unique tricorne

3) death by spark skeletons in sins while being cursed with -light res
lesson: never go in there solo and without max light res

4) never cyclone into a pack of LMP voidbearers

and some descent deaths/lessons:

don't hit rare goatmen with molten shell on the 3rd zone
never face chatters without high cold res
even with 2 light res rings you will die like a bitch from a pack of blue dischargers
don't waste 10 minutes fighting exiles in hall of heroes

Witch-49-Vaal Pyramid
Cause of death: got punctured but did not notice, run from mobs until died
Lesson Learned: be careful of puncture (it is hard to notice, but hurt a lot when you have no armor), keep track of mobs which "can puncture enemies" (there are only few of them fortunately)

Level 77 Onslaught. I ran into Docks and noticed a rare LMP Haste Voidbear down. He rushed toward me, I tried to flee up and I clicked on the border of the POE's window (I play in Window mode). Alt-F4 too late.
Lesson learned : POE sux when you need to fight mobs at the bottom of your screen.

Died too many times. Learned that you are never safe in PoE no matter how you build there is always something around the corner that can kill you.

Enemy auras can get extremely dangerous with already dangerous mobs e. g. haste with spitting void bearers or substantial physical with archers or blackguards.

Rare substantial damage Archer punctured me, I lost alot es so I ran with quicksilver away... 1,5 seconds and All ES was gone :D

Now I always carry a staunching quicksilver with me:
