Should facebreaker be considered as a weapon?

Flicker Strike:
Teleports the character to a nearby monster and attacks it with a melee weapon.

Leap Slam:
Requires an Axe, Mace, Sword or Staff.

Why can't flicker strike and leap slam be done with facebreaker?

Because they need specific weapons to be used in their description.

So, why can't flicker strike and leap slam be done with facebreaker?

Flavour. It adds variety instead of everyone wanting to use the same combinations. Some builds would no longer be appealing if they didn't set limits on them.
I'd rather have a custom "bare hand fighting animation" >_>

edit : really, Facebreaker are okay atm.

Perhaps GGG can make Facebreaker occupy 3 slots (main- + off-hand + gloves)? The hand slots can be dimmed in the same manner as a 2-handed weapon.

The only problem with this is currently, I don't think Facebreakers are designed to be used ONLY with unarmed builds. While this is certainly the primary use for them, notice they also give a significant bonus to crit damage. Unless I'm mistaken, you can't ever crit without a weapon.

There is an option that prevents auto-equipping.

Yeah, this option is almost required for anyone who uses facebreakers. The bad part is, it also applies to all your other characters as well which can slow you down a bit at the beginning of races. It would be nice if this option could either be set individually for each character(defaulting to auto-equip being on) or if having facebreakers equipped at least prevented the weapon slot from being auto-filled(still allowing the option to manually equip a weapon there if you really do want to).
One of my argument about being it considered as a weapon I take from real life: if you are in a court for asaulting someone and if you used any knuckle duster (if facebreaker is not knuckle duster so what is it? )you would be charged as using a WEAPON

And in the game, it feels that facebreaker is magical gloves what provides some super powers. Can't help me but I consider it as white gloves used by any 19 century magicians
I don't think you quite understand that Path of Exile is a game with strict rules regarding keywords. Weapon is one such keyword. Let's just say Facebreaker was treated as a weapon. That would mean it could now benefit from critical strikes, Weapon Elemental Damage nodes and gem (this one's pretty important) and use a variety of skills. Now the problem lies in the fact that Facebreaker really only provides a large chunk of physical damage, and then some of it is converted into elemental damage using Hatred and Added Fire gems. On the other hand, other such builds such as Elemental Cleave run Anger and Wrath auras combined with Weapon Elemental damage to greatly increase their damage output.

Now if the keyword was changed to included Facebreakers, you'd have a completely broken build in terms of viability and damage potential.

Edit: Also, the main Facebreaker keyword being unarmed; e.g. not having weapons.
