Enjoying the game but the imbalance between melee and ranged is unfortunate
" This is pretty much the sum of it for a decade. It's not that melee hasn't been able to function in PoE. It's just always been an uphill battle that got worse other time. Especially after they took away various Shout mechanics and changed Fortify. It's not just the archetype but gearing also. For like 8 years. A good melee weapon in PoE1 was +%Phys, +%Phys/Accuracy, +x-y phys Damage, +%Crit Chance, +%Crit Multi, %Atk Speed and it had to be a Jeweled Foil. With only one stat exception if you played Slayer or Elemental. Everyone wanted this sword. Outside a few Uniques. Two handeds were just trash until more recently. Dual Wield was good for like a year when Savior came out. Then they nuked our defense options. So getting a good shield was almost as bad. At least with shields you had a few more options but you were also competing with casters now. The gearing cost for melee was absurd. Meanwhile I could obliterate up to red maps with a +3 level wand I found in Act 1. I made my first Melee in 2 years during Kalgur and it didn't suck but Endurance changes are also OP. Agreed. There's quite literally no upside to being melee.
You're slower, do less damage, and have lower survivability |

yeap melee is bad very bad

most of ppl didnt get it yet...
the devs dont know how is a melee char, they realy have no idea. a melee char most of time, should be pure armor, and high HP, the problem in poe 2 return to it main flaws, the passive tree lacks o nods of life, max life and vitality. and armor has no effeciency. add to that, the the immense number of penalties and restrictions that passives have. melee failure: slow toons many penaltis and restrections. bad pssives. bad equipemnt. indefensible and invisible ground damage effects. I played with a warrior until level 94, then I got tired of it and deleted the character. I have a level 95 wolf druid pure melee, he's a bit faster and his DPS is better. and again, Their vision is to play druid, and keep switching inventory, whish is in my opinion is near a joke. as i said i play as i want, and not how Jonathan expected. in resume, te main problem this game had since it realized have more negative effect on melee toons. |

Melee is more difficult and it does require investment. But I honestly think the elemental skills are the worst. Even with ES being better than armour.
The elemental skills are weak. The infusion mechanic is trash. Elemental skills hit like a wet noodle until you have specific, hard to find/craft +skill gear. AND you will still need a bunch of other offensive stats. Blink is crap, until you get a bunch of cooldown reduction and cast speed. And I mean a lot. "Cast on" effects suck, until you have top-end gear. But shield wall warrior can steam roll all the way to endgame on SSF gear. So I hear your frustration on melee. I agree the combat mechanics are very unfriendly to melee, BUT I feel mace skills are in a much better place than elemental skills. Melee biggest weakness, imo, you do actually need to be good at execution. Rolling slam is a perfect example. The skill felt like crap (and it is crap), but it's was fun learning how to use it. And once I learned how to use it, every other skill in the game was pretty simple. Also you might need to play on a controller to enjoy melee. The problem mostly boils down the same thing over and over: It's really hard to be decently tanky unless you have a whole lot of ES, are a strong ES/Eva hybrid or are fully committed into tankiness. Being ranged is inherently so much better for defence, too.
I leveled a Bear Form Titan this league and it was pretty nice during campaign, but once I hit the endgame, I simply died nonstop. Didn't help that I had huge windup on my skills, too, besides being so close to the enemies already. Solving defence there was really not simple, simply because you can't stack life easily. We still need life buffs and we need action speed buffs for melee and it would be so much better for melee builds, finally. |

" but tell me, how much time a warrior spend to kill a boss??. 30min maybe?. |
|
" No. And if your experience with warrior is taking 30 minutes to kill a boss then there is a simple response for anyone with that issue. Mash the clean

yeah, sucks to play melee in this game unfortunately
