Am I really expected to stop attacking to escort these spirits?

Currently is best part about Spirits that they not move on their own.

For now atleast, you can do Abyss + Spirits.

Don't touch Spirits, clear Map, clear Abyss.
Once you find Amanamu's Void Rare from Abyss, don't kill it and go kill all normal Rare on the Map, so all Spirits could only target that Amanamu's Void Rare you kept alive.
Then move all spirits on the map to that Amanamu's Void rare, and make sure that you kill that Amanamu's Void rare outside of smoke cloud it spawn, so you can damage it inside cloud, but make sure to kill it outside of it.
Then see huge pile of omens.

I didn't do much of it, this is best result so far from single Amanamu's Void rare that had 3 spirits.

Also, as a pure minion build, this mechanic is extra dumb.

The whole "let the spirit touch mobs to boost drops" idea assumes I can just... not kill things for a bit. My minions did not get that memo. They see a monster and immediately turn it into a fine red mist, whether I approve or not. So I can't really do the "escort it through a pack to stack rarity" minigame, because the pack is already a memory.

Meanwhile a caster/ranged/melee build can just take their finger off the button for a moment, let the spirit boop a few monsters, then resume deleting the screen. Easy. For minions, the mechanic basically says "Congrats on your archetype - now please unpick it."

So yeah. It's not just annoying. It straight up negates a whole playstyle.

It's always been the case in PoE that some builds are better for farming specific content than others. Minions are not suited for spirit farming I guess.
