Does anyone like 1 portal?
" The portal has infinite uses, unlike before when you could only use it once. So the new system is better unless you die. Then it becomes more punishing. If you need to alt-tab out or take a break while doing a map, what I do is go into the map and pause the game. I think that keeps the instance active, or at least it seems to always have for me. |

You kind of baited this whole thread.....which makes me think this will fall on deaf ears.
But here's my take anyway. Yes. I do like the 1 portal design. It makes each and every encounter require your attention. No more passivity or reliance on the multi-portal defense for terrible build construction. It creates an overall healthier atmosphere around building well-rounded thoughtful characters, rather than singularly focused builds that risk being blown over by a slight gust of wind in their direction. Plus.....y'all comment like losing a single map to a death is a game over. It's not. In a given league you are going to be running HUNDREDS of maps. Thousands. One lost map every now and then is negligible. And if you are repeatedly dying to the point where this is a legit issue....that should kind of be a signal to you as a player to do a deep dive on your character build. " I don't think I baited anybody? I had a negative experience and I wanted to know what other people thought so I asked. Thanks for the input. Imo having one redo in a part of the game that's in obvious need of tuning seems like a good idea. While still having the desired effect that you have mentioned. Most of the time it's not an issue. I wouldn't go in them if I knew I would die. But when it happens to something silly... yes it's very annoying. |

" You titled the thread as if you were genuinely asking a question.... but then in the actual post you close your OP by say "no one likes it", meaning you've already made up your mind and aren't TRULY interested in the title your thread implies. That is bait. What you actually want is simply validation. A better, non-bait title would be "Who else dislikes 1 portal?". Projecting your own opinion while not attempting to preempt any potential disagreements. Perhaps ONE additional portal wouldn't change much and ultimately I wouldn't be opposed. But I have no issue with one portal, accidental deaths or no. Shit happens sometimes.....you have an unlimited amount of more attempts. It's absolutely bonkers to me that your example for why 1 portal is bad is that you sometimes choose to casually alt-tab "for some reason" while loading into an juiced endgame map like dude how about just don't do that? The fact that you would ever even consider doing this in the first place is evidence to me for why we need 1-portal maps.
" Yes, I absolutely do. For the same reason I like XP loss. I want a game that punishes me for failure because it makes success feel much more rewarding. |

my personal opinion is that the one portal rule be removed.
give the players unlimited number of portal runs irregardless of number of waystone modifiers. each time the player dies, the player (and NOT the rest of party members) gets a debuff/penalty of 10% increased damage and 10% more damage received by mobs. this penalty will be stackable for every death at this particular map. If the player is really bad and lousy, then eventually the player will receive high amount of damage debuff/penalty and the player will eventually has to quit the map. 34pre98qua

Honestly I don't care much. I play by whatever rules GGG introduce. Overcoming obstacles is the main part of the fun for me. But I think it could be much better if we'll get 2 tablet slots at three mods instead of four and 3 tablet slots at five mods instead of six for one extra portal.

I miss 1 portal from 0.1, tbh. I liked it, but I always liked heist, which was basically the same thing. It really made me measure my risk, but without such a heavy price as HC. It was a great middle ground. I think giving up 1 portal pushed PoE2 deep into being PoE1.
