Want a real feedback? Make an in-game poll.

Forums, Reddit, Streamers or Steam reviews won't give you the objective feedback.

Every active player should have the option in-game to answer your list of questions or take a part in a poll.

You obviously listen to your playerbase. Problem is, certain players tend to be more loud than others. Very often that group is never satisfied with changes, constantly wanting contradicting things. Maps are too big -> Maps are too small.

Main benefits:
- You can pair the answers to account / characters played, giving you more info to which characters tend to give which answers a bit more.

- You can get objective and more broad data sample, proactively asking everyone, not just listening to the loud ones. People also tend to give negative feedback more often than positive by themselves.

- You can pair the answers to the amount of real money spent, seeing what your most loyal supporters want. Or pair it with played time, to see what most active players want.

- This is Early Access, it is okay to make a poll once in a while and gather large feedback sample and evaluate.

--- Basically, my suggestion is to objectify the feedback a bit more, since your patches seem to be affected by some "loud" feedbacks, which does not always end up being healthy for the game.

Thanks :)

Good idea.

I'll also add that there is a somehwhat important density of trolls on this forum. Some of those are not asking changes in good faith. I even think some are actively seeking for this game to fail.

Like you said, there's a lof of illogical and contradicting statements, sometimes from different factions, sometimes from the same person.

A lot of people are asking changes without realizing nor analyzing the global impacts of the changes they're asking and when you point it out, they resort to trolling instead of admitting they are wrong.

Polls in game for paid players is a good way of getting decent feedback. It should'nt be done this late in the league though. I suggest for it to be early and there should be some incentive for participating, nothing extreme, like maybe limited free MTX draws (like 1000 of winners in the pool that participated).

Those polls would be a goldmine for GGG. This forum current state is as good as the current end game.

Just as how most players won't bother going onto an outside site like this to provide feedback, most players would also never bother to fill out an in game survey or poll.

Sadly the only form of feedback you can actually get from most players is what they pay for, and whether or not they keep playing after the update has already been implemented.

Regarding the feedback they do get, as it stands, there's definitely inconsistency in what the community thinks the devs are up to.

Because when reading a statement like "You obviously listen to your playerbase" directed at GGG for a lot of the community the first impulse is to laugh about that having been said, because they obviously don't.

thank god they don't lol

issue with polls is that they won't do anything really. they have to ask the right questions and we know they wouldn't be able to manage that either as that's a whole job in itself. They don't have a "community manager" that checks in here - just a bunch of feedback - not a place where said feedback is collected/analyzed/presented in a meeting for example :/

I really believe they listen to feedback and make changes based on that:
Towers reworked, smaller maps, sprint, etc.

I also think it's not that hard to come up with a list of questions for things they are considering changing. Whether it's community based or from GGG, it might not be that bad idea to poll the playerbase what they think :)

Good point would be also to then share the results back to the playerbase. Suddenly we might see that those 5 people making 15 new posts a week about "Death penalty is bad", isn't the majority. It's just zoomers refusing to build defenses and 90% community is totally fine. Same with many other topics.
I think a poll is a good idea. A lot of gacha games run on seasonal models, and they live and die by community sentiment. And you know what? They poll multiple times per season. Say what you will about gacha games, but they get registrations in the millions, so it's a model that works, and they are basically free-to-play live service games, just like PoE.

I agree with OP.
It may turn out that the game is played not only by streamers with infinite resources fueled by RMT and other no-lifers without jobs, families, etc. I bet people would start whining about drop rates, crafting materials, and so on.

Right now, this isn’t even a video game — it’s a trading and gambling simulator. I’ve had enough after around 300 hours this season and spending over 500 divines on gear crafting. The amount of effort required compared to the rewards you get is terrible.
Xaxaxaxa nice post. I bet Devs fearing the obvious results that never wanted!

+1

Is there any good reason NOT to make an in-game poll?

Genuinely can't think of a single one.
I know the devs care and listen to some, constructive feedback.
They want to deliver the game as they see it, but also as much fun for most players. Knowing what most players (or most paying-players) want is a crucial information and no platform can gather objective data on that.

I wouldn't be surprised seeing that 75% of community calmly enjoys something way different that what is screamed at this feedback forum every day :)
