You could do all the same difficulty and tension before 0.3.1 already without being forced to do it. Which, since you are such a masochist, I am sure you already did. How exactly it improves your gameplay experience if I am forced to do it too is still not clear to me.

But I know what it is. It's elitism. PoE has a reputation of being for "hardcore gamers" and the fewer people can enjoy the game the more valuable it becomes to be one of the "hardcore gamers". Can't let a filthy casual slip through the cracks and enjoy my elite game and wear the same badge of honor as me! That's all there is to it, really.

It kinda is tho if you derive a feeling of superiority from excluding others from a great experience. Anyway, just wanted to point out that your actual gameplay experience doesn't improve one iota from my experience being worsened.
