Energy is the best defence by far

GGG has been treating Chaos Inoculation with Baby Gloves since launch. Bleed & Chaos were supposed to be ES's counter but they fudged the implementation, twice.

CI builds were meant to be forced into taking on another defensive layer (Mind Over Matter) if they want to survive vs. Bleed.

Bleed does nothing if you play lich.

And you can mitigate bleed. Just saying...

Chaos goes into your ES. It doubles in damage.

You can actually google that and read it from multiple sources. Instead of posting total b*lldung into forum.
Yes, there's tons of avenues available for countering bleed with 1 HP. That's why GGG gave Chaos Inoculation an immunity to it.

At no point in the game do other defences outshine ES. I would say with bad gear it is even worse. Getting to 5 or 6 thousand ES is no problem when you just do a campaign play through. Getting your health pool up to 3 thousand is a challange for a lot of builds even if you are equipped "near perfect".

To avoid getting one shot with a non ES build, you have to severly sacrifice dmg. A decent ES pool is smoething you can casually get on the side.


Situation in trade is already absurd. Saying 5-6k ES after campaign is achievable, is equivalent of saying that in d2 'you can get enigma in act1' because some guy gave you one that is 10% off perfect.

I can farm t15-16 maps and get 6 asc points with 3-4k ES, or EVA/ARM under 2k life. in fact just crossing 2.2k HP with 75% reses on my merc reduced the 1-shot sources from 5 to about 2 (with damage mods on maps). If majority can run that much ES and prob MUCH more dmg than I have, they are trivializing all gameplay this game offers. This is a major problem that will lead to balance changes and result in PoE1 current state with enough time. This is exactly what happens when there is minimal friction for trading.
While energy shield may be superior to other defenses, one usually can't scale it much when it is combined with other defenses, and when it is not, you get hit every time, so it always makes up for it. More life is needed for sure, but life builds usually deal way more damage to use offense as defense and avoid taking heavy hits to begin with.... Balance is almost OK, but not quite, I'd say they almost got it right, but life builds, which are just life, could benefit from 15-20% life increase. Maybe a bit more. Very simple ways to do it:
- Vermillion Ring (I wonder why this is not even in the game, yet, but may come with Druid and Arrogance support, I think).
- A few more increased maximum Life nodes on the tree, because Unbending (passive tree node) is not enough.
- Bring back jewel sockets, so Adorned and/or Grand Spectrum (Ruby) make more sense to use.
HC SSF. What else? Ruthless when?

That's why you use them both. If you don't like it, there are alternatives.

Balance is a huge problem in this game. The best way to judge is to play all chars with different weapons and see the tragic insane difference to many classes and builds.

So fixing servers, bugs or whatever wouldn't bring people back.

Improvements in balance is the key to everything in life.

Yeah I don't understand how the defense are suppose to be balanced in this game. It's super easy to get high energy shield, but significantly more difficult to get life and high evasion/armor. Energy shield is implict on all es gear. Whereas you have to roll life mods along with other mods that you need.
