Thanks GGG Team

As a new PoE player who has been around since 4.12., I always enjoy seeing how hard you work on the game. One can only guess how much time has gone into 0.2, but it looks fantastic. Thank you for that, and here's to many more months and hopefully years with PoE 2!

Yeah, we shall see if this will get the masses back and interested in the game again.

My guess is no, not for long term anyways, but there's still a long road ahead before official launch and lot can happen before that so if this patch proves a failure, maybe the next one will be a bigger hit.
Who needs masses? They just need regulars that like the game, and keep coming back. This isnt mcdonalds...

I think we all know by now they're trying to throw a wider net. The die hard poe fans are not the target audience.

If 10k people love it a certain way and 90k think its to complicated/hard. Thats not as good as if 100k people think its an ok game for all, just not a great game. This is the road most gaming companies have been going down for a long time.

GGG used to care about making a great game before. Its really hard to tell if this will just be a "background noise" game that you just play when you're bored of your other game. Or if they will be able to pull it off and make it as good as poe1.

Right now stuff like d2r mods, destiny2, fallout4, elden ring, are those types of background noise games to me. I could plan a vacation somewhere and if ggg announced a poe1 league start that week I would likely reschedule my vacation for the following week. Poe2 I could end up having to work out of town for a week starting the day of launch and not even care.

of course we could get some really awesome gem info that makes things exciting. Like earthshatter have 3-4 spikes baseline, or earthquake get a support gem that makes it instant, or if stampede would drag enemies into you like mass grip on dk in WoW that might be really cool.

We don't know yet though.

So tell me then, how much of the decision making process has been the result of tencent strong arming the development process? Oh you dont know? Its just an unsubstantiated guess based on your feelings?

You think tencent gives a $%^% about how many people are playing? Tencent just wants money, thats it. A wider net doesnt translate to more money. 10 whales that regularly buy MTX provides a better return than 500,000 that dont. The mcdonalds method of making a game that tries to cater to everyone is currently flipping the gaming industry on its head if you havent noticed. Nearly every triple A gaming studio that has been doing this is now hemorrhaging money, and the communities are trashing them for it.

I think the inital suspicion holds way more weight than your's.

If I were an investor I would prefer masses over a few whales. They've already admitted they target micros towards the short term gamer, dont quote me on taht I've seen it mentioned couple times now in other threads... bottom line there are more MTX to be had in a wide net compared to 10K players that want to spill blood for as hard as possible progression. Your example is terrible assuming 500K wouldnt spend money. Thats just very very bad assumption. The assumption that makes way more sense is a broad net. If this were not the case we would not have TV commercials.

Im sorry, but your feelings on this are either misinformed, or just incorrect. This has been extensively researched.

In the gaming industry, "whales" (players who spend exceptionally large amounts on microtransactions) often generate a disproportionately large share of revenue compared to the general player base, even though they represent a small percentage of the total player count.
Here's a more detailed explanation:
What are "Whales"?
In the gaming context
, a "whale" refers to a player who spends a significant amount of money on in-game purchases, such as microtransactions, loot boxes, and cosmetic items.

Disproportionate Revenue:
While whales are a small percentage of the player base, they can account for a large portion of a game's revenue.

Example:
A study by 5th Planet Games showed that in their game Clash of the Dragons, 40% of revenue came from 2% of players who spent $1,000 or more.

Why do companies focus on whales?
Companies often design games and monetization strategies with the goal of attracting and retaining whales, as they can provide a significant and consistent income stream.
Examples of whale behavior:
Spending $1,000+ on a game
Logging on average 6 hours per day
