Why is MTX so expensive?

They're a New Zealand company, the NZ dollar is not worth as much as the American one. They never tried to bother with a conversion system and because they're owned by Tencent now, they don't feel the need to.

I just hope that in the VERY near future, people that purchased MTX's over the years in PoE 1 can enjoy using them in PoE 2 instead of being limited to what they have at the moment

They'll get to it eventually.

This game needs a lot more time in the oven so i don't think the mtx should be the priority right not, maybe once we're nearing the official launch/1.0 version, then they can hammer them out to keep their promise that all cosmetics work in both games.

It's one thing for cosmetics from POE1 to work in this game. But to charge $35-$70 for some of the skins is ridiculous. I've never seen prices that high.

Even stash tabs like the map tab is like $15? Quad is like the same price? The prices for some of these items are really high. And I thought Blizzard was bad.

For tabs, you have every few weeks a sale, and for any other MTX (skin) in the shop, you get sometimes a few % off.
On top, supporter packs are really good. You get great-looking visual stuff and points for the shop. Is the shop expensive? Sure it is. But GGG has to make money somehow.

And don't forget, every single league you can earn free MTX (visual stuff) for challenge completion. So even if you cannot or don't want to spend any money on "skins" you still can get great locking stuff for your characters.
It's wild how much full mtx armor sets cost... Like, you could buy a whole other game for that prie, like Cyberpunk 2077 + Phantom Liberty bundle (even two copies with the Spring Sale 😂). I get that they need to make money with microtransactions, but it's the way they've designed the default armor that bugs me. It just looks... plain. Everything is colored and designed in such a way, that it blends with environments most of the times, creating eye strain... these design decisions are in fact patterns meant to subliminally make you consider expensive mtx sets to reduce your eye-strain.. that's my opinion.. it's just dark and not exciting at all.

And it's not just the armor pieces. Even the more powerful rare weapons look the same as the basic ones after a player invests a lot of time in the game to gain currency and buy such an item. That really takes some of the fun out. We've put money into early access and stashes and all that, so they could at least give us better ways to customize our gear, or at least it's colors.

TL;DR
For example, here's an idea: what if they let us change/transmogrify the default looks of our gear, adding skins from same slot unique items we've found ? And for even more options, one could unlock them with in-game currency, a few mtx coins, as a gift from a friend or - even better - get them as rewards for progression like when you reach a milestone, complete an achievement or beat pinnacle content ...

And here's an ideea about how they could still monetize this in a "win-win" way... add a 400 coin MTX initial on all the visible gear slots (helm, gloves, body, boots, belt, weapon, off-hand), with 2 "styles" each, with the option to unlock the 3rd for 50coins, 4th for 75coins and so on.

That way, those unique items would actually mean something, and we'd get more ways to make our characters look cool. Plus, it's a way for them to make some money without making us wear those boring default skins.

An initial cost to unlock slots for "transmog" does not help with ongoing development (live service). It's more expensive than ppl think.
And you would cuck every single player who cannot spend money to unlock the transmog slots.
You already get free "skins" with every single league, can earn stuff when participating in events and so on.
