Warning for Ultra widescreen Mod after I disabled it
I have played PoE 1 regularly since 2014(11k hours on Steam). I have had a 1080p 27" monitor for 20 years, and just bought a Samsung G9 49", only to learn that I have to play with bars on either side. PoE is pretty much the only game I play, outside occasionally LE. A game that supports it.
I found the fix, and thought everything was fine, until I wanted to test my new controller(always been Mouse+keyboard player) in PoE 2 and got a cheating warning, then realising it is not an oversight by GGG. I have never cheated in games, and consider it a weak mentality, but never thought that using a monitor would be considered that(yeah I know technically it is the files added to force the 5120x1440 support). I am deeply distraught by this news(to me). Is it because of ongoing races, or would I be considered a ban for this? I have disabled it for PoE 2, but still have the support in PoE 1, as I have received no warning there. Can't we get an official word from GGG? This is extremely disheartening and disappointing. I played PoE1 to lvl17.... BUT THEN Ive put 400+hrs into PoE 2 and bought the $480 dollar support pack.
There's NEWS ARTICLES with links to the "fix" from Rose. Why not go have those taken down? Its easier to find the "fix" than it is to find that the "fix" is cheating. Can you not just allow SSF players to use it or something? A compromise? What "advantage" is there in that? Is 240hz OLED "cheating"? ITs an interesting discussion on where the line is drawn. I get their line is "no file manipulation".....but i am allowed to have the advantage of keyboard/mouse to go thru items faster than console? Can there not be an exception like for "loot filters"? What about Exiled Exchange 2? Can we please just have support for this? Truly, this is an expensive game and people have the hardware to juice this game to the MAXXX and it is so beautiful and fun and repsonsive... Please just let us have it......I despise cheaters and almost felt offended lol i was like I AM NOT A CHEATER NO!!!!! I dont even care about races or literally anyone doing anything besides trade..... and we have given the resources for this to be developed......cmon yall!!!!!!!!! Lol, I just played the 2nd race event, midway through I noticed that the black boxes on the side of my screen were bigger than usual, so I spent a couple minutes trying to fix my settings as I thought the issue had to be on my end.
But no. Apparently everyone participating in the event were capped at a 16:9 aspect ratio. I'm bringing it up here because I suppose its related to the ultra widescreen not being supported discussion. Seriously, the advantage you get from a bigger aspect ratio is almost zero. I finished almost an hour faster than last week and felt the smaller aspect ratio compared to last week made ZERO difference on my time. However, the game looked like garbage compared to what I'm used to and it made me feel like I was wasting my time playing an ugly version of an otherwise amazing game. I just lost even more respect for GGG than I already had from the widescreen discrimination. I had already decided to not support GGG financially until ultra widescreen is supported. I'm now even more confirmed in that decision. And I'll also be changing my Steam review to negative until this ridiculousness stops. |

Found this 32:9 thing myself today. Decided after playing some of Monster Hunter Wilds, to play POE2 for a bit, to only log on and get a cheating message. What the heck? (I said in my mind) I havn't played in a while since MHW came out. Only to log into POE2 to get this? I immediately logged out of the game, wondering what the heck is going on and have to search for what the problem actually was that supposedly I've done. And come to find this silly simple thing of wanting my game to look superb on my monitor, to be called cheating.
I mostly play solo. I don't compete in anything, I don't care too. What cheating is there? I've read about getting an advantage of something farther on screen? That's pathetically ridiculous even if it's so (it's not by much). I don't care to look at POE2 within a box on my monitor. It was highly disappointing from the start it wasn't supported. And unlike I've read here on others. And I would suggest others do the same. Is, I'm not going to beg. Why beg for it to be added? I simply will not support your product any further. I was a new player. But that's all I will now be, nothing further. There's plenty of other games to play. Sure if there's competition there's cheating rules and it's good to have them. But I would think most players are not here competing. Stick your heavy rules even with 32:9 to competition. But leave your bread and butter players with this 32:9 thing be! You may have money now, but it always gets spent, what will the future be? Right now, it won't be from me. Back to MHW I go until I decide to either deal with the silly thing or uninstall. |

Keeping this thread alive, because there are "some" of us who have huge monitors and shouldn't be penalised for our purchases!
"A beautiful murder!"

Clinging to 16:9 like its some kind of Holy Grail and deliberately deciding not to support anything wider than 21:9 is a fail decision.
What's the purpose of making a new game if your decisions on it are antiquated and outdated? If we're doing that, why not lock the game to 4:3 too? Huge black bars for everyone! But so much equality though! Just like in the good ol' days! Increasing Field of View in PoE: /1236921 Dernière édition par Shajirr#2980, le 16 mars 2025 21:59:46

" It has to do with client and server side stuff. "Because of server serialisation distances, the maximum aspect ratio is currently set to 21:9. This is the widest that we can currently go before we start hitting the cutoff where entities and effects vanish." So from the client-side you would have black bars or they would need to stretch it from 21:9 to 32:9. From the server-side, stuff has a capped distance where it's loaded in (AI behaviour for example). If ppl now have double the view horizontal GGG had to align the client FOV with the server, and furthermore, if they would change it so everything is loaded in properly for 32:9 - these ppl could off screen like hell and avoid any danger way before everyone with a lower ratio. Thus, not supported by GGG and would cause a ban if you force it with third party tools. Dernière édition par JakkerONAIR#4902, le 16 mars 2025 22:26:01

Well having to load more stuff in can only make it run worse. Hopefully they'll optimize this thing, get it running smoothly, and add support for 32:9.

" Thank you for keeping it alive, I'm a huge PoE 2 fan, but after having experienced the game in 32:9 and having to go back to 21:9 because of the cheating allegations it suck knowing how amazing the game can look without the black boxes on the sides of my monitor. I contacted their support about it too, I don't know if doing that helps bring awareness to GGG about this issue. It would be nice with an official response from GGG on why 32:9 isn't supported so we don't have to speculate on it. Considering they went from 21:9 in the first Doryani Race Event down to 16:9 in Race 2 and 3 I'm guessing they have an idea that it's an unfair advantage. However considering how much times improved between race 1 and 2 it's clear there are other factors than screen-width that are much more impactful. My own time was almost a full hour faster in the 2nd race with the smaller aspect ratio however I decided to not even play the 3rd race because of how bad the game looks in 16:9. The guy that won every single race is a 32:9 player as well, and clearly attempting to "nerf" him in this way didn't work either :) I hope it's true that it's because of technical difficulties that 32:9 is currently not supported and that it will be supported in the future, but it would be nice to get an official response on that. |

" https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/3294819 " This subject has alredy been discussed at length and from the looks of it, they didn't made any engine changes to support 32:9. In that thread there also has a myriad of reasons explaining why it was great that they cut support for it, which simply carried over to PoE2, i guess. Does it look good? Sure. Can it be abused to undermine PoEs design? Absolutely. Not all hardware should be supported just because it exists, even more so when it clearly disrespects the original intent of the game.
