POE2 needs to stop being more like Diablo IV and start being more like POE1.

Since POE2 is unplayable unless you want play the Death Stranding walking simulator with a 3 screen clear build and one shot bosses on a gambling system, I have been playing other games. I have given some of them some time during beta but not played since then.

This inevitably led me to Last Epoch. That game has some interesting systems. A skill tree instead of skill gems is interesting. But the passive tree and strict class adherence lacks the pure variety that I love. Also the campaign is so trivial it is boring.

Diablo IV I played in beta and didn't like it. However, I figured now it was worth a shot. I have to say they do story telling very well. Great writing, great acting but the rest of the game is a mishmash. The open world idea means you can quickly overlevel for the campaign and trivialize the bosses. It also seems like running errands to get all the statues and so on. I am in Act 4 and will finish the stories, including VOH but it is not a game that would hold my interest long term. The game is too full, too random, too directionless.

However it is clear that POE2 is trying to copy a lot of aspects of Diablo IV. The GGG developers are trying to get that casual gamer that doesnt want to think, just wants to come blast things. They are trying to emulate the D4 recipe but that has never been what POE is about. D4 is to POE1 like Apples are to BMW Sedans. They are just completely different games.

POE kept me coming back because there was direction in the game. Sure you blasted the campaign but then there were interesting mechanics added per league, and over the years new campaigns such as getting powerful enough to defeat Maven or Exarch. It was engaging because it couldn't be trivialized. The builds in POE2 that are popular make the game completely trivial and boring but so do the systems. Want to beat Xesh with a warrior? In POE1 you could beat Exarch with Cleave or RF or a witch and minions. There was a choice. in POE2 there really isnt. There are a couple of builds that screen clear, the rest just die a lot. The passive tree seems to try and force you into a more rigid class architecture and unique builds are all but unknown. There are a few like HOTG Chronomancer but those are rare and as far as I know not meta.

I would encourage GGG to take a step back. Look at what made POE1 a success. Look at what made players come BACK every league for 10 years. Look at why people gave them money they didn't have to to play the game. Then consider those rough spots and smooth them out. Let customers not have to deal with the annoyance of finding a 6 link. Make the campaign fun, not a chore. Merge delve and the atlas together to make a compelling endgame to rule them all. Stop following any other recipe except your own.

Basically, stop making D4, start making a true SEQUEL to the best ARPG in existence today.

Brother, this is early access for a mere two months. Half the classes, weapons, skill gems, support gems, acts and big chunks of the endgame aren't even in the game yet. Maybe let it be born first before you already start to bury it.

Why are you trying to compare league mechanics of a game that has been constantly added on to over 11 years to an early access title? Ironically even realizing the fact that it was a multi-year process to get PoE1 to where it is.

It seems the only ones complaining non-stop are the PoE1 veterans wanting PoE2 to be a carbon copy of PoE1. Let them cook.
We want POE2 to be a sequel to POE1.

Strange huh? Almost like they share a name except one number.

Rambo 2 was a sequel to Rambo 1, they didn't make Rambo a school teacher.
GTA2 was Like GTA1, they didn't turn it into an ARPG.
Sequels are like that.

Pfff... what an argument.

How was it with GTA II and GTA III? Hm?

GGG wants to do stuff differently with PoE2, things they don't "like" about PoE1, it's actually pretty easy to understand.

Its stupid because POE1 will still be the best ARPG out there.

If it's still the best ARPG out there for you - what's the problem!?

Because it is not being supported or added to anymore and the game that was supposed to be its sequel that i have been waiting for for 5 years and financing GGG for has been turned into a disaster area of mish mash games for the cynical purpose of getting drive-by diablo IV type customers.

Firstly, PoE1 support (development of a new league) is only paused and not cancelled forever and secondly, that you spend money on a product before knowing how the product will be is on you, not on GGG.
You basically "pre-ordered" and now got mad because it's not what YOU wanted.
Weird.

How to argue against yourself.
There are often drastic genre changes between a first film and its sequel.
Rambo 1 and 2 have little to do with each other, like Alien or Terminator.

The very message of Rambo 1 is completely reversed in its sequel. We go from an anti-war movie to an interventionist action movie.

Right. I am supposed to believe them after so many times they changed their mind and screwed POE1 players? First couple of times, ok. I am not so gullible anymore. Even their event is loaded with obvious testbed for POE2 stuff.
