Death Penalty is Super Unfun

Why are you dying? No hp? No es? No evasion? Not paying attention?

That's step 1, figure out why.

Step 2, craft or trade for gear to fix the issues on your character. If you don't have enough orbs to craft or trade then play lower tier maps where you can safely clear.

That's about it. If you still die with better gear then you might want to rethink your passive tree and skills.

Good luck exile!

Yes, lets do all of that work to have a little bit more fun.

OR...we could go play a different game that doesn't require 20+ hours of work for a marginial improvement.

GTFO
I used to die often and then I took some of my damage nodes on the tree and invested them into more defense and CC. Now I rarely, if ever, die. It’s also worth buying an omen of amelioration so when you do die it decreases your xp loss by 75%. They’re selling for about 120ex right now.

Then I'd recommend you go play another game. PoE has been like this for over a decade and there's no reason to change.

The tips people offer to mitigate death penalties completely ignore the core issue. The death penalties force me to walk on eggshells and be overly cautious, which as a Merc just forces me to shoot enemies on the edge of the screen as soon as they come into view while back away. I don't even dodge roll anymore because I do everything possible to avoid getting close. I literally just spam AOE explosive shot with 3 heralds to while out mobs before they get close, and bosses I just run in a big circle and melt their hp in 10 seconds.

This is a complete 180 from campaign where I was constantly dodge rolling and out maneuvering enemies and close range. This is 100x more fun because I actually have to engage, especially boss fights.

Right now the way they "balanced" the endgame was to add lightning fast mobs with cheap oneshots combined with exp loss and map bonus loss to counteract player power. Seems like almost no thought went into it

This is POE2, it's a different game with different promises. POE1 also had hp passives instead of relying completely on strength and gear. Seems like you just want POE1 with better graphics

I don't want PoE 1 2.0

I don't want PoE 2 to be D4

Hope that clarifies my stance on the game.
Even though it has pissed me off..:i like death meaning something….its like a very very small taste of harcore…lol.

I just wish they had someway that we could see what we died from and how big the hit was….::

While i was in Vaal factory.

Yes, I wish there was at least something like "damage taken in the last 4s before you died".

They've been very reluctant to add it. It seems to me it's because they're afraid it's not going to be perfect, and people will complain it's misleading.

The core issue isn’t the death penalty. The core issue is your build isn’t capable yet of the content you’re trying to run. Removing consequences for death doesn’t make the game better. It actually has the opposite effect and hurts replayability along with trivializing content. I fought the Arbiter of Ash today for the first time and six portals turns the fight into a joke.
