Sorceress dialogs in Act 2 made me dislike her ...
She sees a caravan pulled by ton of half-alive slaves
(paraphrased) Naaaaah you just don't understand our culture. She rescues Risu (with disgust in her voice) "Don't touch me Faradin" I know we don't play some paragons of morality, but playing hateful slave apologist seems ... you know ... kinda bad. --- Edit from later post: Yes this is just a small part of the game, many people won't even notice this. And yes this isn't in any way focus of the game. More reason to just change this two (or more) dialogue options - For Slaves: My people, keep traditions that are too old. - For Risu: (with reservation) Can I trust you Faradin? Easy and we play much less horrible person. Dernière édition par Bakubylozajete#1182, le 8 janv. 2025 07:02:48 Dernier bump le 10 févr. 2025 05:58:11

Welcome to path of exile. The player characters are not nice people. The witch is a literal sociopath.

seems like you are just drama baiting. if you weren't paragon of morality, you would just get over it. I played as sorceress, she is a tough lady. I like it. Also its in game slavery, they are not even on earth, why do you care?

She can say whatever she wants because she’s hot and looks like she’d be a freak in bed. So it’s actually pretty close to how the real world is. You might get along better with the monk. She’s more focused on acquiring alms for the monastery.

I guess she fits with her people. She may have been exiled for playing with forbidden magic but she's still culturally a Maraketh. Which, apparently, means being a slaver and a racist (might not be actual racism, just long term hate).
"Slave apologist" is a modern term that we now need to label people who promote slavery. Because in our times, slavery is almost universally considered a "Bad Thing" (even though it makes returns in subtler forms). But PoE takes place in a universe much closer to early middle ages where slavery was entirely the norm. Few practiced it but even fewer did anything to stop it. GGG don't seem to care to be "politically correct", "woke" or anything of that nature, and it seems most people don't care either and are fine with playing (as opposed to living) in a crapsack world full of monsters, psychopaths and other assholes. Oh of course this crowd came ...
Only one I can respond to would be: " I loved Mercenary reaction. Modern terms aplly to history and fantasy settings. There might not have been term for something, didn't mean that there wasn't the phenomena (like depresion). On the other hand there were terms historicaly for things that don't exists but were falsly belived. And yep it's not exactly racism. From what I've gathered its somewhet like a cast system, or system with outcasts that are hated. And this is not about being woke or politicaly correct. It's about heroes of our stories being horrible people. And we can show that it's bad, or have the character grow, or we can have a hero who hates minorites, or promotes other hateful or harmful ideas. Yes this is just a small part of the game, many people won't even notice this. And yes this isn't in any way focus of the game. More reason to just change this two (or more) dialogue options - For Slaves: My people, keep traditions that are too old. - For Risu: (with reservation) Can I trust you Faradin? Easy and we play much less horrible person. Dernière édition par Bakubylozajete#1182, le 7 janv. 2025 13:07:36

" If you don't like the sorc's takes, try the witch. She's degenerate beyond redemption. In case you didn't notice, the game is called Path of Exile. Exiled rightfully or not, we play exclusively anti-heroes. Their character "growth" is exclusively for power, to overcome the world that has thrown them into the gutter. I'm not trying to belittle your point of view. This particular issue may be a deal breaker for you and it's fine. Hopefully, you can still enjoy the game despite the sorceress and Maraketh existing. More broadly, this touches on a matter of stylistic character design. Should player characters be given a "personality" along with moral stances at all? Or should they be a mute like in Skyrim, whose all choices come solely from the player? I don't like every take or comment of my merc or ranger either. I am not my PoE character, I play them. |

You can dislike the view of the character, and well, it's okay.
It's like watching a movie based on Sparta where the main character is a tad more respectuous towards their slaves than his father and brothers are. Would you hate the character because he somehow condone slavery (or accepts it as "normal" in their life)? Maybe, but it has the benefit of maybe feeling more realistic IF this is the way it happened historically or the way the author decided it would/should happen in the case of a fantasy setting. The characters' point of view doesn't have to cater to ours. It's a fantasy world where even the main characters are flawed in more ways than we would expect a "hero" to be. Anyway, the Witch is way worse. I like her: She's totally crazy and it fits the character well IMO. I don't agree with her at all, but it's a nice touch to see that not every main character thinks the same. Dernière édition par pyrocyborg#0256, le 7 janv. 2025 14:16:55
