My feedback on fire sorc after 90 levels of play. It's bad.
Fire seems to struggle really hard compared to the other elements. NOW I LOVE how some of the fire spells look. FlameBlast and SUN combo is just epic to witness! (With cast speed you can get the full charge to be under a sec and it basically covers the whole dam map screen!)
That is why I gravitated towards them but even as a new player reading how that element works I knew it was not going to serve me into the late game. As soon as I hit the end game I converted it to chaos. That way I can keep the damage from The good fire spells and still have freeze and electrocute apply with the help of the gained damage from mana storm. I feel like you just can't use fire damage as it is now. The thing is the ailment attached to fire damage is simply irrelevant once you max things out. You can only apply a single Ignite which At best, would deal 80% of the hit that proced it... OVER 4 SECONDS. Something utterly irrelevant as you would be casting the same spell UNDER ONE SECOND! Ignite offers literally nothing. Lighting can stun for 5 sec. Ice for 4. Both durations can be enhanced too... Chill is a good enough slow as is. Shock gives you 20% MIN increase damage. Their ground effects too can make for insane combos with never ending chattering "chilled" enemies with that one unique ring. There is also lightning warping to make shocked ground then spamming conduit etc... Obviously there is the broken herald of ICE/LIGHTNING combo... There is a reason everyone is playing Invoker and StormWeaver... The reason being that fire as an element feels unfinished at best. Let it have the same treatment as the other two. An actual useful Ailment. With a "bonus" ailment that covers for its weaknesses. Like Freeze and Electrocute. Ignite would be ideal if it melted things. As in, you keep blasting and they get hotter and hotter right? It is not always the same heat! Ignite should simply stack in some form or another! The Fire exposure part from Incinerate should have been a core part of that Ailment from the get-go not something specific to one spell! The "bonus" ailment from fire damage should be the about the BEING BLASTED BY FIRE AND EXPLOSIONS parts of the whole thing! The enemies should be discombobulated, dazed, confused and stunned when you throw an exploding sun at them not just walk past it! Stun or a different from of it should be the "bonus" ailment of fire mostly tied to the "explody" spells like Fusillade, Fireball and Flameblast. While the Ignite and Melting ailment would be tied with the sustained spells like firewall, incinerate the SUN! etc... What the warrior is supposed to do and feels build around too in a way! But even the warriors are struggling because as it is now. Fire damage seems like an unfinished Element. Ps: Remove firestorm from the game that spell is pure a ss simply because it does not look cool at all D: Maybe that is the conclusion. GGG is still working on it in this early release version. I hope they listen to this feedback! |

Lightning sorc seems to have gotten all the love, Spark to be precise. Freeze sorc comes in second I think, at least during levelling.
I agree with you that fire is kinda bad but it can be made into a good build. I'm currently running double ember fuselade on my Chronomancer. You can snapshot wildshards support gem and essentially gattling gun non-stop embers. Use SRS to ignite enemies then run cast on ignite with whatever skill suits you in that. I've managed to kill T4 Xesht utilizing time freeze in about 7 seconds. |

I played "Elementalist" in PoE1 a lot, like a lot a lot.
Playing "Ignite" builds was always fun. Having an "Autobomber Fire Burst" or "Divine Ire DoT Cap" build was great, but I think ignite in PoE2 is just different. In PoE1 you hit as hard as you can so the applied ignite deals as much dmg as possible, but in PoE2 (at least now) ignite is mainly a tool to trigger stuff. If you play around with "Cast on Minion Death" or "Cast on Ignite" you can make good builds, but it's not the classic "I throw fireball and ignite you to death". I think it's weird now and I can't tell if it is intended, but I get the struggle you described. I hope "Ignite" and Fire Spells in general get a bit more love, it's basically the Warrior of spells. |
