Blink is a side-grade at best, but costs 60 spirit
Making blink cost permanent spirit instead of simply cost mana each time using it was one of the worst ideas GGG came up with for PoE 2, imho. It makes NO sense to have it that way.
Also, it shouldn't be a replacement for the dodge roll, but a separate skill so you can use both. I get it that they wanted to prevent people from using movement skills to zoom-zoom through the maps, but for that, a proper cooldown time would've been sufficient. The fact that they added such a stupid OP item like the damn Temporalis just adds insult to injury. |

Blink teleports you. It gets around terrain barriers that aren't line of sight blocks, and it gets around getting cornered and pinned by a swarm of fat monsters. It moves much faster allowing much easier resumption of application of pressure after using it to dodge, as well as much easier access to the safe side of something thats trying to yeet some kind of big gnarly cone. However, it has a cooldown.
Dodge roll moves you relatively safely through an area, avoiding most damage on the way. By default it has no inherent mobility advantages other than squeezing through tighter spaces and being slightly faster than normal movement at the start of its animation (I know some exceptions to the mobility advantage exist in specific but generally rare cases...lets not have the achtually crowd in here telling me about demon mommy or dodge roll mods please). The animation takes a fair amount of time to complete, so resumption of applying your own pressure takes longer. Much more readily available for ducking out of dangerous abilities with attention to positioning. TL:DR, they solve different tactical situations with different tactical drawbacks. So with that being said, here is the adjustment I propose to make them more comfortable to use by readily enabling access to the correct tool for the correct job in a streamlined manner (and consequently all other reserves as well for that matter): Allow reserve skills toggled on/off switches to be placed on a key binding. To prevent abuse, incur a cooldown for reserves that have one when they are turned on. That way you can easily turn things like blink on and off on the fly without fussing around with UI menus, allowing you to quickly adjust your skill gem states to the tactical requirements. |
