The animations on many wings are held back by the walk and run cycles of the actual exile models. If my character looks like they've soiled themself at a half-jog, big back attachments with rigid bones and cloth simulations will just draw attention to that fact. I think this is the main cause of bad-looking "wing animations" as some others are saying.
Anyway. Personally, I vote for the gargoyle idea. There's pretty good variety and representation for feathered wings, but webbed/bat/dragon wings have a poor track record for usability in combination with other MTXes. A neutral, particle-free version of the Breachlord wings might do the trick. Also: don't pander to maximalists who want a mountain of clown vomit with sprinkles and a cherry on top. They may be whales, but they're also a tiny minority. You'll make more in the long run with slightly blander, more interchangeable elements. Have you ever considered trading the sword for the plow, Exile?

Meh to wings. Can we get helmets that don't suck? And shields?

Not quite hitting the "dark and epic" mark, yet but anyway:
Tidal/Hadal Wings: Wings made from driftwood with tattered sails, fish scales, seaweed, barnacles, a torn fishing net, etc...
I suck at this but here's a sketch
Name: Tidal Wings for the flotsam and jetsam or Hadal Wings after the deepest zone of the oceans. Exit, pursued by a Plummeting Ursa.

though I would love to say black dragon or bat wings, I suspect unless very cleverly designed they would just get in the way too much, so perhaps more spectral or ghostly would actually get used.

I would want a specter that follows you around...
- if you start moving, it will follow you a little after, with open arms and you can see strings bounding you to the specters... some trail smoke can be displayed where you walked - if you stop moving, it "catches", "hug" and "posses" you, so you will start to glow/smoke some effects (same ones as you walk) something with a grim/dark look will be great, like Vorana \m/

I think it would be epic if the wings had the ability to target close by corpses and creating a cosmetic effect. The effect would be to remove a dark tortured soul off corpse on the ground and adding it to a swirling mass of dark souls that trail in the wake of your character.

Chaos Themed Butterfly Wings

welp, seeing as this thread is already 15 pages deep, I doubt anyone will actually see this, but here goes nothing:
Darklight Wings think of it as the antithesis of the "arclight" theme from League of Legends. Honestly, you could take a lot of inspiration from the character designs of the current expedition bosses with their lich like appearances and gothic metal armors. but ultimately I think the success of these wings will be in their simplicity. A lot of wings out atm are very over the top and garish. I feel like this set should be on the smaller end of the spectrum. but enough theory. Basic concept I'm envisioning is basic "fallen angel" black feathered wings augmented and accentuated with gothic metal highlights and accents. now, if you REALLY wanna get experimental and try doing something super cool, why not try implementing that new character effect technique to these wings? The wings start off as a pair of small, unassuming wings, but after racking up a few kills in quick succession they 'explode' out into a much larger and more imposing set of wings (maybe it has 4 or 6 wings?) would be pretty neat if you could pull that off, but totally not a requirement. | |
Some examples of wing designs I drew that I'd think might match the dark and epic aesthetic.
