What is the necessity of herald of ash rings?
i have a feeling that herald of ash is just unnecessary, and i feel like just going without it would be much easier to get resists needed on the rings , with some possible ES and % damage rolls such as with opal rings perhaps.

If you're ok with losing about 60-70% dps, then don't use them, for sure.
You can get unnerve and culling strike on cluster jewel btw.
When you have the mods on Gloves the jewel is basically useless and comes with opportunity cost. First Among Equals + Stalwart Commander not only provides adequate damage but big ES gains.

You're right in terms of true min-maxing, but your setup with gloves gives only about 2-3% more dps and about 50-100 more es, so there's no significant difference.

its just increased modifiers that could be gotten from rings. and the herald of ash itself gives phys as extra fire, so im not quite understanding how is it giving me more damage then a well rolled rare ring would?

You lose 177% increased damage and 30% more fire damage modifiers by disabling herald of ash and not using rings. Read the mods of the rings and herald of ash.

I recommend to check your Anguish rings. You will see a mod saying "increased buff effect of.." then check your Herald of Ash and what it does to spells.
