by shotgunning i mean when you hit the same target with multiple projectiles. for ice spear, there is a certain distance you need for it to travel before it turns into 2nd form. but projectiles move further and further apart from each other as they travel. despite that, you can still hit all a single monster with all 3 projectiles of ice spear in 2nd for if you place yourself at the distance the ice spear will turn into 2nd form right before it hits the monster. this works on most monsters, except for thinner monsters like skeletons, undyings, zombies, etc.

I figured that is what you meant, I've been 100% using GMP with my ice spear totem. I try to place my totem so that when it hits what i'm about to kill it will be in second form by the time it gets there also. I'll have to play around and see which I like better.
