Just to updated I tried this again today in standard just to check how heavy was the nerf to winter orb in Patch 3.7.

The build is still insane, the projectiles still fires fast enought so you don't have to stay chaneling all the time. I did a quick T15 and couldn't feel any difference.

Frost Spear is untoched so the single target is still the same. I did uber elder easily with this on Flashback.

I don't have insane gear you can check my character for tree + gear is zugO_Worb.

To answer the question if Winter Orb is good or not:
It's good, but not as good as before :P

Guess I have to ask... Why do you play with controlled destruction when skilling so much to increase crit?
Just a quick note to say I am playing with this build slightly modified this league, and it's still great fun.
I've switched the increased duration in my frostferno for added cold as it was pointless to keep the charges for longer with the reduced damage.

It means I have to channel a little more often, but it also gives WO quite a bit of extra damage. Ice Spear still melts all boss content nicely with them being combusted.


I know GGG were trying to force as many people as possible back to melee this league, but I started originally as a flame cycloner in PoE, and tbh I was always found that melee always had issues with bosses & harder content. It's much more preferable to me to attack from range. Melee in PoE, no thanks...

As far as the ED meta went, been there, done that. Sure it's great at melting maps, but I found issues with bossing with that as well, so again no thanks.


I think people thought that the adjustments to WO would "break" it, however I've found it to be just as enjoyable as before providing you're prepared to slightly modify your playstyle for a little more channeling.

P.S. My character list is public, the toon in this league is LegionMael if anyone wants to look.
Some of its gear is still to be upgraded, but it'll only be ring/ammy/boots/gloves/chest as the league goes on. The main "working" parts are all set.
I loved Path of Exile.
I do not love Path of RNG.
Bloom gives me migraines, the over usage of darkness strains my eyes.
Save our game, remove all of the constant RNG and allow us to turn off Bloom or give us an in game brightness control!
I am sorry but i can't locate the information on how to make winter orb be free. The auras are using up all the mana and there's nothing left to cast everything else.

I see -3 from the passives, what else is giving us -7 mana cost?

There's also the need of mana for ice spear, it costs 67 mana currently.
Now that i got sovereignty and i am able to activate all 3 auras, i am left with 47 mana. Not enough to cast a single ice spear.

This build has obviously been theory crafted out of the chinese version and not tested properly. Hell even with your pastebin, some gems don't work because you don't have the necessary strength to activate them.

I've played it in 2 different versions on stream and it's been extensively tested.

I usually don't respond on forum threads but this warranted some attention.


To help you get on the right path:
If mana is an issue it could be due to being too low lvl to sustain the cost of 1 cast of Ice Spear which is essentially all you should be needing to do as described in the video it does require you to aim properly for that one-shot effect. WO isn't supposed to be held down for an hour so that should never be an issue mana wise.

To sort this issue till your lvl covers the mana cost:
Spec into a big mana node such as "Deep Thoughts" (north of witch next to the HP node) this is a 2 point investment till your lvld enough to handle it.


Regarding the attribute requirement as well as resistances:
This is something I've decided to not include in my PoBs due to too many new players trying to purchase exact replicas of the gear being displayed in the PoB causing my inbox to be filled up with people asking why their ring that has exactly x & y stats is not available.
Instead the guide describes that capping resistances is essential as well as gem attribute requirements.

Easy solutions are (in general) strength via belt & dexterity via amulet though this build utilizes a lot of uniques and specing a +30 node is never a bad solution till gear can cover.

Sorry for jumping to conclusions, I will look at your stream history and try to watch the videos where you level up and played this. I love this build and i want to deepen my understanding of it.

What will my leveling change to the mana issue? I am currently level 86. I am missing the last lab, but another 33% max mana will only take my available one from 45 to 60, still not enough to to cast a single spear. Please explain what you meant by that.

For now, what i do is have all 3 auras active when clearing whites, and in bosses i disable herald of ash so i can use spears. Still annoying to not be able to use spear all the time, but it works for now as a solution. I am also going to take the "4% reduced mana reservation" node that's north west of "written in blood" and see if that changes anything combined to lab.

One last question if you don't mind, what do you think of patient reaper instead of weave the arcane? 50% more burn damage (we have 50%+ chance to ignite) sounds pretty handy against bosses, and all the life/mana/shield we get back from every kill sounds pretty damn insane. Is weave the arcane just a way to plug our mana issues, or is there something awesome about it that i am missing / under estimating?
