killed Shaper but it's like I did nothing in the game

It's probably related to the sequence of Memory Fragments.
You must collect them in order, and Shaper holds the last one.

Correct, and 24 hrs and around 80c later I got the 13th fragment which gives me the map mod I want. I just feel it's all ass-backwards that the game lets you take on harder content but does not unlock or reward you with anything to match your difficulty progression. When you complete the Pale Court you get a bench craft unlock. That's a solid example of a reward albeit technically outside of the Atlas progression. But I mean I traded for the frags, ran the set, got a reward. I don't see why the Shaper should be any different. I mean I understand that you can probably service/boost a player and cheese the system in its current state, but they did have challenges that were conditioned in such a way that you cannot be in a party to achieve X and Y, and if they applied something similar to the Atlas where if you can kill something on your own, unlock all of the lesser difficulty content immediately because it's just a prerequisite to the harder content.

For how many players is Uber Elder just another checkbox they want to hit each league by now? The problem in PoE is that boss fights are rather underwhelming, because of the insane damage GGG themselves introduced to the game. They realized that and added phases to many bosses, but that's just a crutch that doesn't make the fights more interesting, only longer and even more boring (cause of the downtime WHERE YOU ARE NOT FIGHTING).

Being able to kill main bosses within seconds is just not satisfying at all. I want fights to last and be somewhat exhausted at the end of it. That alone would be reward enough I think, no need for the 274th crafting recipe or some item I'll probably not going to use on my current build anyway.

Granted, I could purposely make a bad/non meta build and have a slightly harder time, but the challenge is mostly gone by now. I started playing when Piety was the final boss, shortly afterwards Dominus was introduced. People were legit scared of that fight for a good while. Nothing like that happened with Shaper or Elder, even with mechanics not fully figured out the damage was already way beyond the point where you could be thinking "can I actually do this"?

I don't know how to resolve this, but maybe something like Syndicate is pointing in a possible direction. Players are genuinely annoyed by Intervention, cause it hits you unprepared and you have to adapt to it. I'm by no means proposing that Elder/Shaper should jump you in maps, but a slightly random element of always present danger might inject some excitement back into the gameplay.

I don't think it's fair to lock crafting recipes like that, unless they are really, really good.

We all see Streamers do Shaper, Uber Elder, Uber Atziri etc' on a daily basis - but these are actually really hard to get to, and beat.

Outside the "1%" and dedicated rotation/trade groups, how many people here can say they got to fight Shaper?
Pale Council?
Chayula?
Aul?

Man it took me literally years to self-grind to Shaper and Uber Atziri in Standard, and failing a fight means setting yourself about a month back...
I got my ass kicked by Uber Elder, and don't have the chance to try again, yet.

The end game isn't gated by difficulty as much as it is gated by fkn layers upon layers of brutal RNG.
The fights themselves can be the fun kind of hard... heck Shaper is hands down my favorite boss in the game... but getting there is once in a lifetime.
