Intensify math (tldr, not very good)

16 OH WAIT BOSS STILL alive because I spent all the time doing stupid stuff i ignore in my DPS calc.

Seriously, in which fight where dps matters do you think you are able to stand still for more than 2 seconds?
QoL gem for sure but it kinda hits home when you look at the numbers straight out how bad it is, You are very unlikely to get more than 16 stationary casts out for example and if you are chances are the boss is dead anyway -_-

just a gem to save you swapping
you are vastly underestimating the power of "qol"
not even counting the fact you dont have to swap gem for bosses it provides a pretty noticable boost to map clear, any big rare or miniboss (syndicate members) which you normaly cant swap gem for in a map you now have effectivly a "mini" conc built in by default, yes it wont be as strong as conq would in terms of pure dps for that shorter fight, but you will have significantly larger aoe for it and will still have the larger map clear aoe without having to worry about gem swaps
on top of that if you are using the gem alone with no other area increases (unlikely i know but possible) for map clearing the area is BIGGER then he increased area gem which caps at 49% while intesify goes up to 54%
in addition to that with the same requirement (no other area nodes) intensify actually comes to a lower area penelty even at max stacks then conc does
intesifies 54% increased area combined with its 48% less area at max intensity comes to a comulative 80% actual area modifier, which is LARGER then conc alone (admitedly the more area you have on the tree and gear the gap gets smaller and with enough area concs smaller "less" penelty will cuase intesifiy to result in a smaller area but you need a fair amount for that)

then we get to how you actually LOSE intensity
you dont actually need to stand still for 16 solid casts to keep intensity up, you lose 1 intensity for every 0.25 seconds of moving, or 1 for every teleport
that means flamedash once to dodge a boss attack and you only lose ONE intensity, not all of them, it will be pretty easy to consistantly keep 2-3 stacks of intensity in most boss fights, in which case it will outshine conc (if you have 2 stacks as a baseline it only takes 4 casts for it to start outperforming conc, 4 casts is less then one second of casting for a lot of builds
then you flamedash reposition and you have only lost 2 stacks again, meaning you will CONSISTANTLY outperform conc

TLDR
you VASTLY underestimate the gems power both utility wise and boss damage wise
i dont think it will flat out replace conc as a boss killer gem, if your doing elder or shaper yeah you will keep conc, but for general mapclear it flat out replaces inc aoe and will be more then good enough to replace conc for smaller bosses like syndicates and gaurdians

EDIT
oh and an afterthought
some skills dont do damage "per cast" and benifit even more from intensify
the best example imo would be bladevortex, get the benifit of a large aoe boost for mapclear, but when your standing on a boss keeping max stacks up you get a MASSIVE damage boost because as its not damage "per cast" but per second, if your cast rate is high enough you will basicaly lose no damage before your at max intensity

Run your maps with inc. AOE, swap to conc effect on bosses

That there's the rub. Some players, like this one:

===========================================================>

absolutely despise the otherwise expected notion of "just swap your gems out three thousand times a play session, make sure you learn how to swap gems in mid-combat, and enjoy the benefits of not being able to commit to a decision!"

Intensify is nice for players who boss with Inc. AoE if that's what they decide their links are smoother with, or conversely for those who map with Conc. Effect because they decide they can cope with the shitty coverage in exchange for bigger deepz. Is it a fantastic gem? Not by I_NO standards, no, but Grinding Gear is finally getting back to gems which modify skill behavior instead of just adding yet more dumbass conditional 'MOAR' modifiers, and I'm all about encouraging this trend.

I would like to point out that your math isnt considering the lowered AOE it provides as a damage boost. Many skills are more likely to have greater AOE overlap with smaller AOE, so the 48% less AOE After 4 casts is a slight more multiplier to your damage on top of its actual more multiplier. On a skill like firestorm, the less AOE on conc effect is more important for boss dps than the more damage multiplier. Stacking intensify on top of conc will be very powerful for some skills because of the less area

There is also the convenience factor of not gem swapping. It’s easy to gem swap for something like atziri or a map boss, but for things like tough essence monsters or random beyond bosses this will be much smoother
Lmao I can kill the boss with intensify faster than you can swap your AoE gem with conc effect. QoL is king in this game. The only time Conc is better to swap into is when you are fighting bosses with phases because you need something to do during that down time.
