Intensify math (tldr, not very good)
Quick math on intensify vs other damage gems. A good comparison would be concentrated effect, as they do similar things. More damage, less area. They are a little different since intensify gives the aoe buff when you are clearing, but in terms of raw dps, its very low.
For conc effect, you get a flat 0.54 (54%) damage increase. For intensify, the average damage is based on the number of casts. A quick google sheet showing intensify damage buff per cast. casts dps icrease 1 0 2 0.08 3 0.16 4 0.24 5 0.32 6 0.3733333333 7 0.4114285714 8 0.44 9 0.4622222222 10 0.48 11 0.4945454545 12 0.5066666667 13 0.5169230769 14 0.5257142857 15 0.5333333333 16 0.54 17 0.5458823529 18 0.5511111111 19 0.5557894737 20 0.56 21 0.5638095238 22 0.5672727273 23 0.5704347826 24 0.5733333333 25 0.576 26 0.5784615385 27 0.5807407407 28 0.5828571429 29 0.5848275862 30 0.5866666667 In order to be on par with conc effect for damage, you must cast a spell 16 times without moving, and even at 30 casts, the damage increase is barely noticeable. Basically, this gem is a minute QOL improvement and nothing else. Run your maps with inc. AOE, swap to conc effect on bosses, and you get all the benefits of intensify without the ramp up time on damage, and the requirements of being on self cast. Dernier bump le 10 mars 2019 à 15:46:02

Yeah, intensify sucks ass. Very disappointing. Also reddit did an about-face and is sucking rory's cock over it and it's hilarious--the level of delusion about it being good is funny. Those people will be gimping themselves trying to use it over totems.

The gem says 16% More Area Damage per intensity.
That's not what you calculated. | |
" Max stack size is 4. That's where your understanding fell apart. Either that or you're failing to compute average damage over N casts. OP is exactly right either way. For example, take the 4th cast. At that point, you've cast once with 0% more, once with 16% more, once with 32% more, and once with 48% more. Average those hits out and you get 96% / 4 = 24% more on average over the 4 casts. And all of the computations from there are correct too (I imagine OP just wrote a script to pump out the numbers) Dernière édition par codetaku#0468, le 6 mars 2019 à 21:36:53

I do not think the support is meant to be better version of conc effect. Instead i believe its meant to be a fusion of IAoE and Conc effect for general clearing. Its aimed at those that normally would use IAoE and then swap the gem for Conc effect when facing something tougher.
This skill basically does that - when you clear you do 1-2 casts and move meaning you will be benefiting from the increased area. If you find a rare you will stand and cast multiple times benefiting from the more damage. Now that is the idea anyway. 1) Encounters will require you to move a lot so you will want to swap for conc effect for those anyway. 2) You may require more then 2 casts to clear trash and the less area will kick in hurting your coverage too much (esp if you have a lot of inc area of eff from other sources) 3) The more damage mult might not be worth dealing with ever changing area size. Now we just need folks stupid enough to stand in one spot casting... Movement is king in poe.

" Yeah, i posted this same type of thread on reddit, got MASSIVELY downvoted immediately... i was down to ~10% upvoted for a while. Seems some people have starting coming to their senses though, cuz somehow it's gotten back up into being over 50% upvoted, albeit slightly. Anyway, yeah, intensify more or less just looks like a lazy person's version of an inc aoe/conc effect gem swap. The other main use I could see is pairing it with conc on icestorm/firestorm/bladefall/etc, stuff that actually wants lower aoe. Maybe it'll be worth something there, but as a support that supposed to help handcasting in general compete? Hell no. Dernière édition par Shppy#6163, le 6 mars 2019 à 23:28:57

But really, GGG, who stands in one place? Tree?
If GGG will play a little their own game or just ask someone alive.. They will get what they done. We all know - if you stand still even halfsecond – you dead. So casting and standing usually is a death wish. |

I would not use intensify for dps increase think about the flat area increase e.g contaigon with increase area and intensify i get about 100% . This could result in somwhat 1 ED to clear a map

YOu are obviously wrong.
Let me explain While casts dps icrease 1 0 .... 30 0.5866666667 Is tecnicaly correct however Mr. "IpostNumbersWithoutThinking" forgot to consider the real thing. In reality it looks like: While casts dps icrease (intensify) 1 0 2 0.08 3 0.16 4 0.24 5 0.32 6 0.3733333333 7 0.4114285714 8 0.44 9 0.4622222222 10 0.48 11 0.4945454545 12 0.5066666667 13 0.5169230769 14 0.5257142857 15 0.5333333333 16 0.54 While casts dps icrease (conc) 1 open inventory 2 select gem 3 swap gem 4 put gem in inventory 5 close inventory 6 0.54 ... 10 0.54 11 open inventory 12 select inc aoe 13 swap gem 14 put gem in inventory 15 close inventory 16 OH WAIT BOSS STILL alive because I spent all the time doing stupid stuff i ignore in my DPS calc.
