Various ways to apply this curse:

1. Cast manually (not very popular)

2. Link it to Herald of Thunder + Curse on Hit (no extra mana multiplier involved here so reservation remains at 25%), this works very reliably for clearing maps but not so much in boss fights.

3. Link it to Cast When Damage Taken (CWDT). Keep CWDT at lvl 1 so it will be triggered often, in this case Warlords's Mark must not be higher than lvl 4. Less practicable for clearing but great for boss fights.

4. Run it as a permanent aura with Blasphemy support (at the expense of 35% mana reservation)

You can also use a combination of 2 & 3.

Avoid hexproof/cannot leech maps. ;)

I have some gems equipped which I'm not using. I'm mostly using Storm Brand, Brand recall, Flame Dash, Herald of Thunder and Arc. Also Shield Charge

What makes 2 better for clearing maps but not for boss fights and 3 better for boss fights but not so great for clearing maps?
So 2 and 3 doesn't involve taking.
The second sounds best cause I don't have to pay attention to the gems level.
But I can't buy that gem, can't buy the CWDT gem either. Maybe I have to go ahead and do my first trade in this game.

Well, you will have to kill things in order for Herald of Thunder to its thing, this not always an option in boss fights, i.e. if the boss has no adds/minion around him. CWDT requires you to take damage which may not happen all that often while you're clearing maps but no worries about that in a boss fight. ;)

So if you have some sockets t spare for your Warlord you might as well use both setups. In CWDT you can combine it with Immortal Call and Increased Duration.

CWDT becomes available as a quest reward in act 4.

When you do the library quest (Golden Pages) in act 3 you can buy gems from Siosa. Whwn you're in act 6, clear the Twilight Strand and Lily Roth will sell you pretty much all available gems.
