Did PoE get hacked?
Hi,
I've gotten a mail that my account was locked because someone from China logged in. Now usually that means I've got some malware or someone phished me but I'm near 100% sure neither did happen. The same also happened to two of my friends a couple of days ago and for them I also really don't think they are victims of malware/phishing. I myself am rather paranoid and have different passwords for all my logins. I also keep my software updated, don't have Java or the Acrobat Reader which are the main entrance for malware. Well the only logical solution (again, I doubt me and my 2 friends fell for some phishing scam, and I don't think we all have malware. We all use password managers) then is that someone got unauthorized access to your account database. Did the same happen to anyone else recently? Can anyone confirm or deny my allegations? Edit: I have to admit that it seems like I used a password that was on a password leak long time ago, I simply forgot about it. So in my case this may be the reason. I don't know of any such leak for my friends' accounts, and again, they use password managers more thoroughly than I do. Dernière édition par bullet#4749, le 5 mars 2013 à 13:41:25

" Read the message carefully. Does it say that your account was locked from somewhere other than near you? Just because you are forced to unlock your account, does NOT mean you were hacked. I have a dynamic IP, so I have to unlock my account every time I reboot my modem/router. That is the case for many people. If your IP address changes, you will be forced to unlock your account in most cases. So read the message carefully and check what city/country it said the login attempt came from. If you only get the email when YOU attempt to log in, and it says your city (or a city near you) then it isn't a problem and that is just their security measures attempting to protect you. If the message says someone in a different country attempted to log in as you, or the email came at a time when you were not attempting to get into the game, then you might have a compromised account. |

Please, read the OP's edit line. He clearly states that his password was on leaked password list some time ago.

GGG did not get hacked but you all certainly did. Change your passwords.

I change my password every 2 days out of paranoia.
If I were you, I would do the same. Edit: If you want to maximise the security of your personal information. Ensure you Sandbox multiple browsers for different purposes on your rig. (Sandboxie) Firefox for e-mail, banking etc. Chrome for casual browsing. That way you can limit the damage done to your personal information if something does get compromised. Actually I have the same problem. Clean machine with a new email account and the password I used here is not something I've ever used before. Router has not been reset or restared since I started on PoE.
Didn't lose anything but then my account is only level 11. The log in supposedly came from Jilan, Jilan China. Is it perhaps something else in the way their security protocols work? |
