I suppose corrupting strongboxes would still work though, or does that count as corruption too?

Where's the problem?
You buy an Immortal Call gem at the vendor, you get the vaal version included within the normal gem.
means it is most likely legacy now

Wrong, it's the other way: the Vaal gem grants both versions of the skill, the normal one doesn't.

Looks like a nerf to me :/
