Huge investment with very little return.

" could it work as an expensive MXT? I dont see any any key!

" Only if you want the female duelist, male raider, female marauder, etc. to be unarmored or have 1 specific armored look that doesn't change with what is equipped. |

Information from various sources and of various age:
- Very expensive, about a lower six-figure sum per class. - Lots of work for something you won't notice much, e.g. because of all that armour (same for custom skin and hair colour) - Gender is tied into the lore/design and they don't want to change that (iirc, this was Chris's own response in one of last year's Dev Q&As)*. So, as far as we know, it's not even considered. *Edit: found the source for the last one: " Source Dev Q&A Exit, pursued by a Plummeting Ursa. The lattermost of Alysma's answer, yes.
The various classes in Path of Exile are not classes, they're characters. They have specific backstories and motivations for doing what they're doing, they're not just generic job classes. The Marauder is not 'Marauder the job class'; he's a singular individual plunked into this game from amidst the broader background of Karui culture and its (highly dodgy) interactions with Oriathan culture. The biggest place you'd notice selectable genders is in the random VA clippings from the game; your Hyrri's Sister would yell female words instead of male words when she tells a rare to "GO TO KITAVA!" That would be cool, not gonna lie - gender equality is a subject I do in fact take seriously and I very much appreciate selectable genders in the games where it's an option. That said... We have gender equality. The Witch, Ranger, and Scion are all girls, and they take back seats to no one (except the poor Scion, but that's not the fault of her gender, it's the fault of a balance team that can't figure out how to make a generalist work in a specialist's game @_@). As an individual who prefers to play female characters when possible, the WItch and Ranger lining up with my mechanical preferences (agile projectile characters or spellslingers) works fantastically for me, even if it means I occasionally get tired of hearing the Witch be all spoopy all the time. As stated, doing alt-gender models, animations, and VA for every one of the seven classes is a seriously expensive proposition with very little real return. It'd be nice, but we can hope there's better ways to spend over half a million dollars on 'nice'. Like getting the MTX system to finally work, for one! She/Her

Diablo 3 has changeable genders, and as a result far less interesting heroes to play as. That seems more up your alley

" No need to get snippy, dude. This sort of thing matters to some folks. The fact that it doesn't matter to you is great. Why sass folks who're merely checking/wishing to see if it might happen? She/Her

" Gotta say playing playing someone like Maramoa or a spoopy warlock instead of a spoopy witch would be awesome. It wasn't really an issue back when we had little class identity so you could usually pick between a male and female char for pretty much any build with little difference but ascendancy bonuses are harder to compensate for. Also, I think Chris is royally missing the point with the armor remark. It's actually very similar to what a Capcom representative said when asked about the absence of X-men characters in the upcoming Marvel versus Capcom game because of licensing issues. He said: " Meme material right there, superheroes are selling your game and you say they don't really matter. Anyway, we don't really have to see the knobbly knees or that badass stance with a 2h sword to know it's a Witch. If a player enjoys the role playing aspect in games even a little he will usually have an idea about his character, what it might be good at, what skills is it using and what it looks like. If the character is of the wrong sex it might not click for you. It would be costly, sure, and role playing in PoE isn't a major aspect of the game so I wouldn't suggest doing it in any other way than an mtx, but it should be popular so the total cost might not be as steep in the end. I agree the cost is an issue but those other things seem like an excuse, already mentioned the armor argument but even the amount of dialogue that is different for every character and also gender specific isn't huge so I don't buy "the character classes are designed to be specific sexes" either, shouldn't be hard making it unisex. Of course, we'd lose that golden monologue from Piety about duelists's butt which is a shame, but sacrifices have to be made. " Aye, that's the thing, we don't know exactly how popular it would be, and the idea seems farfetched enough that ggg wouldn't conduct any market studies on it (have they ever conducted formal market studies?) so it would unfortunately fall upon us fans to be vocal about our willingness to pay for genderbending, which may annoy certain people but there wouldn't really be any other way to shoe GGG it is profitable if in fact it is profitable. I actually don't know my personal WTP for gender bending as I have only recently been accepted at a job and have yet to get a good grasp on just how much my salary gives me. Need game info?
