How are resistance penalties going to work with 10 acts?
When you play through the game 2 additional times you can kind of accept that magically now you have -20% and -60% to your resistances on subsequent playthroughs.
I'm wondering if we have heard anything from GGG regarding if this will just happen between certain acts without any conveyance of the change or if the reduction to resists will be worked into the story somehow. They said in interview that part of the story will result a -30% resistance at 2 points in the remaining acts.
So guessing something like at end of act 5 you get -30% and end of act 8/9 again? On a sidenote they haven't decided on the death penalties yet, I have a feeling they gonna make it level bound and not act or difficulty bound. Chris has said that there are plot events that cause your resists to suffer at two points in the story.

I'm thinking you get somehow frozen or in a stasis for couple years at the end of act 5/10, that would explain the - resists

My guess is that after act5, aka going in to act6/2nd play-through is where you loose -20/30% resist, and the moment you enter maps OR do act 10 (they might place map access after you did act10) you loose the other resist up to -60%.
To me by defeating act 5/10 boss or act 4/9 boss seems to be the most logic atm. |

What is the point in having -res anyway? Couldn't they just lower res on items and the tree and you wouldn't have the need for this artificial difficulty penalty. It's not like getting +15-20 overcapped is even difficult nowadays with ascendancy and all the res in the tree/on gear, so really what is the point in this archaic mechanic from 20 years ago?

" It's to make relative Resists useful in lower difficulties. If one wants to make the Merveil fight easy, picking up two Sapphire Rings is the usual advice. Currently, you'd be mitigating 40-60% of her Cold Damage; that's a very noticable difference! If GGG just lowers Resists all-round, you'd instead be looking at 20% or so, for two Ring slots :/ |

" Not likely from the Slave Pens when you first warp in. There's screenshots of a rebellion camp (i.e., it has a noticeable red x across a descry) with a stash. That's probably the act 5 home base for the exile, so to speak. edit: Here Left side for the stash, top right for the mark of the revolt.
