Yes you can still block during the block animation.

The block animation only happens if you block an attack that would have stunned you. If you had high HP to begin with or if you have Unwavering Stance or a "cannot be stunned" item, you won't be able to see the block animation. Naturally, if you're a 2-hander, you won't have any block chance to begin with hence no block animation for you too.

Where does Block/Stun recovery play into this? Can you still continue to block and the recovery timer is just extended?

I'd love to have some clarification to this aswell.

Also, since you are able to block "all" incoming attacks, what role does "increased block recovery rate" play in this? Or is there a timer that starts after each successful block which has to go to 0 for you to be able to block again?

and just btw, 2h can block, staffs have built in block and also passives to increase that block chance. then again who uses staffs. don't know if you get the animation with staff block though.
It's all fun and games until it's my turn.

I don't think so.
Think of it like this: to be able to block a second attack, you would have to have recovered from the previous block. Hence the existence of 'block recovery'.

^yep

Thx to you two, but would you still have block animation if you take "never get stunned" passive? since the block animation is intrinsically a stun

Confirming from a dev response to my same question that "Cannot be stunned" includes blocking, as you only play a block animation when you block an attack that WOULD have stunned you in the first place. You can't be stunned, so you will never play a block animation.
i too fas fo youuuuuuu
Increased block recovery just decreases the amount of time you'd be stunned (if you were going to be stunned) by X%

Think of it this way-

With lots of hp, you won't get stunned except by HUGE hits, so you won't show block animation either. This means block/stun recovery are pretty pointless.

Now, think of a CI character who doesn't take any life nodes, so every physical hit will stun them (practically). For them block/stun recovery can be a life saver.

That is about as much detail as I can think of on those stats.
Just a little correction - ES above 0 cuts the chance to get stunned by 50%, elemental (and chaos) damage can stun you too.

Block recovery merely lowers the duration of the block animation when you block an attack which would have stunned you if it hit you. You can still block during this animation and I believe doing so resets the block recovery, so if you had really low hp and very high block, you could be locked in perma-block stun. I am not 100% certain of this though.
Most of the time, if you have enough hp, blocked hits don't even play an animation.
