Two-handed melee weapons need a buff?
Two handed weapons aren't bad in themselves. You can get some pretty high dps 2 handers.
The only problem is these weapons are associated with melee. So unless your using some projectile or large aoe skill, being in melee range sucks as a 2hander. Also they have a lack of crit options to use. Most 2 handed weapons have 5 base crit, have fun with that. As well, you lose your off hand slot. Even having a decent block is a great boost to your defense. Some people have suggested maybe adding a "Grip" for 2 handed weapons. Kind of like a quiver. Maybe it adds block to weapons or something. |

The problem has never been the base damage output nor potential of 2h melee weapons. It's the sheer fact this game was designed around stupidly high crit multiplier values allowing everything else to be more viable. Bows are the only great 2h option in the game universally because of A. crit potential B. tree placement (acrobatics etc..) and C. ranged. 1h melee with a shield or without a shield but taking acrobatics craps all over 2h in nearly every aspect but it's life pool which is irrelevant. 2h cannot afford to give up defenses in favor of more crit chance/multiplier/accuracy and still be good..you'll be a glass cannon shit build that serves literally no purpose but to post inflated dps numbers. The solution to this disparity between weapons,ranges and crit versus rt wasn't to give 2h "better" crit weapons. You solve this problem by reducing crit potential making raw base damage output investments i.e RT more viable automatically. Games used to reward smart builds with balanced damage/defense and speed specs. Now it's all about staying as far off screen as possible and ramping crit/crit multi while you whack off.

I PUT ALL THE MULTS ALLOWED by THE GAME FOR POISAAAAAAAHN ON THE CRITIEST WEAPON OF DA GAME OVER 10M DPS* with abyssus and mirrored sword ! not even glass cannon, 4500 HP is not! 3K is *really! Joke aside, the only problem of 2handed builds with decent dps is reflect. 2hand has low attack speed and high damage per strike. Look at oro's , it can be tanky and efficient, but reflect is undoable without ruby flask + vaal pact. Or the dude use a searing bond totem. It works too... but it's not how his build is supposed to work, it's a counter but also a cheap one. He can also run away, but it's coward. No sense of achievement. No, the real problem as you said it's just the power creep, everything is faster, we clean maps at an insane speed... And high damage builds off screeners should just suicide on reflect. And nowaday they bypass this with chaos damage , it will probably be rebalanced... or not. We dont have to be smart, we rush. For the boss well, they should have reduced extra crit damage mod... simple! And not a lot of ppls do uber atziri/dual core malachai daily without struggles anyway. Crit or not, we have access to too many damage mults. Even a RT disfavour can reach 2M dps with poison bleed earthquake. Ok it's an endgame weapon, but RT disfavour cyclone was like 200K dps in the past, with flasks. I will never be good but always I try to improve. the extra dpm a 2h may give is simply not enought to compensate all the defence lost (life, ress, special mods, etc..) from shields or dual wield
increacing the base damage of 2h weapons would be a nice buff, that will free up a few keystones melee users could use in better defence. or better yet give us the equivalent of quivers for 2h weapons, people have been asking for back sheaths for a long time, may be is time to add them. self found league fan

I think they should make the passive nodes for 2-handers more unique. Something like "Bleed on hit with 2-handed weapons", or "15% reduced enemy stun threshold with 2handers" or "10% chance to gain an endurance charge on kill with 2handers" or "20% increased max life while wielding a 2h melee weapon". Since 2handers' niche of crazy dps has been erased by every build having crazy dps, they really need something unique and special to make it worthwhile to give up the shield slot.

" "10% to gain a power charge, frenzy charge, and endurance charge with a 2 handed melee weapon" passive node still probably wont push anyone into 2 handed melee builds other than giving more buffs to Marohi Earthquake which isn't even really melee. The real hardcore PoE players and the elites sit in town and zoning in and out of their hideouts trading items. Noobs that don't know how to play PoE correctly, kill monsters for items. It's pure fact, it will never change.

bu EQ IS melee, melee is not close contact, it's only a keyword ;p
Frost blade is melee too ! If you want to buff close contact builds, let's make a node with "ennemies close to you deal 12% Less damage and take 12% More damage while you are wielding two handed weapon" à la Templar inquisitor ascendancy, but with a shorter range. However it would buff incinerate staff caster too ;P so i guess base damage buff on the weapon is okey... but it's not the primary problem, because the total dps of two handed is already CRAZY. the problem is the lack of slots, to lose life, res, block and utility... Maybe something similar to a quiver? like a totem wrapped to the arm... or a back attachment? I will never be good but always I try to improve.
