PoE already shrinking/dead?
" Small problem here is that EVE is subscription, not f2p. POE can't survive with a small playerbase unless they change their payment model. Up to now POE has been doing quite well because GGG charged real money for closed beta. Now they are in OB, they have to expand a lot more from their CB base. They also been making money from the flood of people buying stash space, pets etc. However that market becomes saturated pretty fast. Once most people have decent stash space and some pets, weapon effects, what do they spend money on next? Pretty sure GGG can do this. Having a more welcoming fan base might help a lot, since the average treatment in these forums towards new players expressing their opinions is pretty intolerant. === Dernière édition par Alienchild#1272, le 16 févr. 2013 à 11:56:31

Player count will spike up every time they add new content, and likely alongside it will be people spending some money on microtransactions they like.
As for sustainability, I do agree that the community as a whole needs to be more tolerant of people on the forums. If you don't like a post or find it absolutely stupid, then by all means ignore it and move on. |

A problem with the EvE argument is that the game is radically different. It is an entirely new experience that you simply cannot find in another game. It is brutal, unforgiving and also entirely unique for MMO players whom have gotten sick and tired of your usual offerings. Players are willing to tough it out with the game and stick with it, because of this unique experience.
EvE does not really have to be worried about competition(well not yet) Not with POE. Sure it is "different" in comparison with your usual ARPGs but only in terms of difficulty and "complexity". But consumers have varied choices now with RPGs in general. You have d3 and TL2( doing fine, because of its modding scene. Smebody just made RAIDING maps with entirely new classes). It is ultimately a business that GGG is running here and they need the money to sustain it. More money, more growth , content for us. I don't think donations from random people upwards to $5000 is going to help anymore. There is a fine line between making games too god damn dumb down like what Blizzard did to the almighty Diablo franchise and making it frustratingly unforgiving for people to get into like what POE is doing. Like I said, I am fine with it, but I can certainly understand why people are leaving or will want to leave. There has to be a middle way. |

d2 is dead too and majority of players are old players. Hardly any new player is going to buy d2.
Yet there are more ppl in d2 online than d3. Yet it hasn't stopped people from playing both games? Is this supposed to be some stupid popularity contest? I don't give flying crap how many players there are as long as game is alive and because d3 is such a shitty game I can say that poe is going to be very much alive. Maybe poe doesnt have 10million players like in wow but so what? Also I donated 160 euros to them not because of vanity items but to support them because I like this game. Someone lock this useless thread please.. |

" 3000 ... totaly random number there good work. It would serve your purpose better if u said 1000 only. Even worse then you is the people that believe in such a number ... Right now im seeing on D3 7.2k public games open in EU only and each public game can have up to 4 players. As much as in the first weeks after release. The majority of games are private. Now tell me again that after selling 12M copies D3 has only 3k players playing worldwide fanboy. Hilarious. That 3000 players playing suits PoE much better. |

" It is ultimately a business. the servers, the content, the people working, everything is not going to pay for itself. If people want more content being added in, GGG simply needs a reason to do so and that reason is profits. Gestures of goodwill can only come so far before reality sets in. Nobody is hoping GGG goes under. We want POE to do well. We want it to kick Blizzard's ass. We certainly want more players here. However, the elitist community ain't helping. Blatant mindless robotic Stockholm syndrome fueled fanboyism never ends well. Dernière édition par arare#6497, le 16 févr. 2013 à 12:13:54

" What? Lock this thread because you don't like what you see and have a closed mind? Some valid points are being made in this thread, even though the title is a bit sensationalist. === |

" It raised little because of d3 update. Tell me again after 2 weeks. Also if there are somedays less players in d3 than d2 online it tells how shitty online game d3 really is. |

" Yea thats right... The worst people of the gaming comunity play either D3 or WoW and the best of the best play this godly game called PoE... Instant game of year and best game ever made without a doubt /sarcasm Are u aware how delusional u are? PoE is an average free to play game and a good ARPG. Nothing more nothing less. |
