Speculation on The Beast

We're likely not gonna be allowed to see The Beast in the closed beta, so we still have a while before the big reveal of just what The Beast is. So lets get our wild speculation caps on!

I think The Beast is this big piece of shit in the upper right:

And so far, we've seen similar creatures. Dominus turned into a similar mess of flesh, though it seemed we was summoning it from another realm. The splash page has this to say:

So we can guess that Dominus was drawing forth the power of The Beast when he turned into a big fleshy rabbit monster. It could even be that The Beast has woken up exactly because we killed Dominus and knows that we are coming for it next. If you'll notice, the same pentagram appears both when killing Piety and when Dominus transforms into a monster. Guess The Beast took back whatever power she was borrowing.

Now, we've seen similarly grotesque things in the game already. Particularly in Beyond, where we were assaulted by monsters from another dimension. The unique items introduced also look similar, with lots of bone and sinew. The new unique items we've seen also have this style, I think even the new dagger too but there's no clear image. Can we assume there's more to the similarity?


We've seen the effects of thaumaturgy throughout the game: Miscreations are just as fleshwarped, blood is brought to life, even gems themselves are effectively thaumaturgy. Dominus's source of power for his thaumaturgy is seemingly The Beast, so what if Piety, Malachai, Maligaro etc all draw from the same source? If thaumaturgy itself is the same power of The Beast?

My assumption here is that with The Beast's ability to change reality with us going into kaoms kingdom, daressos arena etc, this is itself thaumaturgy. Thaumaturgy is then the manipulation of reality. Now what if we got back to the Beyond demons being from an alternate dimension - with all the grotesque similarities, is The Beast from the same dimension? Is all thaumaturgy not just manipulating reality but drawing forth an alternate dimension? If so, then Wraeclast isn't just a continent full of corruption, it's practically a wormhole.

Why bring all this up? Because I think it means there's much more for us to do after Act 4. More than Wraeclast, Oriath and Theopolis, if you see what I mean.



Oh and this is all an aside, but I think the contraption that caused the Cataclysm is in fact the map device within the eternal laboratory. From here:

Remind you of the map device? I think we'll be using it for more than just opening maps in the last third of Act 4.

Its already been stated the beast is the mountain which the gems are mined from which is in fact the beast itself.

The gems were gathered up and dumped there by Tarcus Veruso after building Sarn on top of the Vaal homeland. They're not actually from the mountain, but originated from whatever the Vaal did to find or create them.

Plus, how do we kill a mountain?

There was a more graphic shot from that fight, but I decided no.

That meaty blob sure looks like Dom's second form though. But, wouldnät suprise me if daddy looks something like that. Except 10 times more tentacles and gore.
