Split Arrow or Lightning Arrow for a Life based ranger?

Hey all, I'm going to start a crit/life based ranger.
I've heard people saying stuff like (Lightning arrow is the way to go for life based rangers, and Split arrow is better for CI) Is that true? if yes, why? What could you guys with similar builds personally recommend? Thanks! |

It's more of a recommendation.
Lighting arrow does insane amounts of hits in some setups and works well with life on hit support but leeches poorly without a leech gem due to half damage being elemental. On the other hand split arrow does decent physical damage and can leech reliably which is the only way to recover ES by attacking. It's not a must, of course, it can also work good the other way around. Wish the armchair developers would go back to developing armchairs.

hi, I have good experience with split/pierce/crit. Big advantage of this setup is low mana cost, and it covers big area. I also used wrath aura to add shock (or hatred when map full of fast enemies) to my crits
I dont know why some people say what they say. Maybe theyve haerd something from some streamer or so, and now think its true IGN: Eric_Lindros

Try both, see which one you like better, then use it. It doesn't hurt to level up both gems.

They share the same tree basically so it's easy to try both. Split arrow costs about half the mana of Lightning arrow on common setups. That can be decisive when making the final choice, especially if you don't want to use blood magic and still want to play 2 auras.
