Is there a reason not to Vaal orb level 20 gems?

If i have a level 20 purity of fire that i do not plan on getting 20% quality on, is there a reason i should not use a vaal orb on it?

It can lose levels, not sure what the maximum it can lose is though.

It can become level 19 purity of fire. It loses some trade value if stay at level 20. Other than that, no reason.

Quality can drop too right?

Well for auras this is a non-issue anyway

so if u vaal a lvl 20 gem and it has no quality the only thing that can change is the level right? it cant change the skill to another skill right? if it has quality how much can the quality change?

if the gem you vaal orb has a vaal gem of the same type it can be changed to that. incase of your purity of fire that is not a problem. for example cyclone gem can be turned into a vaal cyclone gem

you might loose a level on your gem but you can just level it back to 20 after

If it's a Quality 20 gem, it can lose as many as 10% quality. Ask me how I know.

The only gems I wouldn't vaal orb are the purity gems. You're losing a lot of max res if they drop to 19 and gain very little from quality/21 gems. It can take a while to get 20 again so I don't consider it worth it.

Every other gem should be vaal orbed.

20/20 gems with a Vaal Orb equivalent are super risky to vaal.

eg, a 20/20 spectral throw turning into a level 20 Vaal Spectral Throw is fucking beyond bricked, for little potential gain.

you get what, .01 dmg effectiveness if it hits 21, or 1% attack speed if it hits 23Q? (23q is max)

I'd corrupt any 20 gem I have which I don't plan to make 20/20. Getting back from 19 to 20 does not take too long - a couple of weeks of casual gaming.

When I have multiple of each 20/20 gems (FA, FC, MPD, Splash, etc.) I will start gambling with them as well. Especially Splash @ 21/20 or 20/23 would be f'ing awesome.
