How does armor work?
I tried search feature and could not find a thread about this....
Can some one give me a simple way of calculating the amount of armor I have vs the enemy attack to know how effective it is? |

Know this, the more damage you take the less effective your armor is.

I like to look at it like this :
If a dude comes at you with a kitchen knife and you are dressed in armor your probably gonna have a decent shot. But if you find Kole and he is coming at you in a panter tank, shit's gonna be troublesome. Hope that help's. Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes

Damage Reduction = Armor / ( Armor + (Damage Taken * 12) )
Off the top of my head.. tl;dr: Bigger the damage, the less effective your Armor. To the point where it does nearly nothing against hits big enough to one-shot you. It's very realistic actually. Armor can protect you from a toothpick, or a dagger. But a giant warhammer or building smashing into you, Armor won't really prevent the blunt force trauma, now will it? ~.^ EA IGN: We_Have_Monk_at_Home

Damage Reduction = Armor / ( Armor + (Damage Taken * 12) )
What does that mean in English? Also i read the wiki link and says every 12 armor reduces dmg by 1. So if I had 120 armor and enemy did 10 dmg he would do 0 dmg to me? |

Which is why I don't know block provides full damage mitigation.
GGG tried to make things logical, and yet failed. I'll throw a toothpick at you, you block it, no damage taken. I'll throw a car at you with a crane, you block it, no damage taken. |

" ... -.-" But... That's simple Middle School math... *Attempts to pull himself together..* Let me try to explain it as simple as possible: - Take the damage you get hit by, multiply it by 12. - Add it to your Armor. - Then divide your Armor by what you got earlier. - Then multiply what you get, by the damage you receive, and you will get how much of that is reduced by your Armor.
Example
Using your example of 10 Damage and 120 Armor:
10 Damage times 12 = 120 Your 120 armor + 120 (from above) Then 120 divided by 240 (the total from above) Gives you 0.5 (or 50%) Then .5 times 10 damage, equals 5. So 120 Armor would reduce 5 damage of a 10 damage hit. " I guess similar to a Riposte or glancing blow? You Block with such skill, that the force of it is misdirected from you.. Or maybe "Block" is magic. :P EA IGN: We_Have_Monk_at_Home *Burnt out and waiting for either PoE1 League or new PoE2 Classes.* Dernière édition par Sheriff_K#3938, le 28 févr. 2014 à 13:37:30

" That could also be applied to armour. Yeah, only magic does that :P |

" Every 12 armor reducing damage by 1 is a theoretical maximum. Don't expect that to happen. Anyway, you need to have 12 times the armor as the enemy deals physical damage to reduce the damage to half. So, if an enemy deals 100 points of damage, you need 1,200 armor to halve the damage. In order to reduce the damage to 25%, you need 36 times the armor. |
