Unarmed build - still viable? Thoughts inside.

Hello guys!

Im a CB tester but didn't got much time to play around at that time.

This being said, I got a pretty amazing item that grants +923% damage with unarmed attacks, facebreaker. Plus EXTRA GORE. So yes, I want to make a build around that.

I was researching on the forums but all the threads regarding this are quite old and probably dated.

Can you guys think of any viable build revolving around unarmed attacks? Its my understanding that you can still use a quiver or a shield on the left hand for the bonuses... But I'm worried about how to deal with mob packs. For this, I'm thinking about using projectile totems with something I am not sure with. Is it a terrible idea? If not, I would branch to the totem nodes, which are very nearby. I'm thinking about a way to deal damage other way than punching things in the face.

I have no idea how the loads of nerfs changed this for OB. Need experienced players input in this matter.
Opinions? Suggestions? I want to make a viable character that punches things in their faces until they explode.
In the video, Chris didn't sound keen on quivers boosting unarmed attack, so don't rely on it. Using a shield is a good idea though, if nothing else because it will greatly improve your survivability in melee.

Another issue is that many attacks require a melee weapon, including most of the AoE ones. You might be able to pull off the elemental prolif + burning trick though for some AoE.

Indeed.

I was thinking about using infernal blow or molten shell, but don't know how those skills behave on late game.

Also, the "weapon elemental damage" nodes do not apply when you are fighting unarmed, right?
Brainstorming this as a newbie is making me dizzy.

I think they do apply judging by the video. They should really be called "attack elemental damage", except that people get confused about what constitutes an 'attack' in PoE. I imagine they'd be more or less mandatory for a facebreaker build, along with some kind of conversion.
Anything that says "weapon" in it will not work with unarmed. The quivers should still work, it was not in the patch notes at least. A good skill will be infernal blow, it is single target with an AE upon death. There are a few posts about this build and some build ideas, I would try and just google it since the search function on this site is kinda wonky.

The problem is that EVERYTHING regarding this is very dated, plenty of stuff changed from CB to OB which invalidates most of the building aspects of facebreaker now...

Thats why Im looking for the inputs of more experienced players or those who have tested it on OB.
