Low lvl uniques from high lvl bosses
Yes, another loot rant.
After dozens of Piety and Dominus runs, all I have to show for it in the orange category is a tab full of Kaltenhalts and Woodsplitters. Why does this happen? Shouldn't these starter uniques drop from level-appropriate bosses so that new players in that level range can actually find (as opposed to buy) gear that is useful to them, while a lvl 70 boss drops loot appropriate to his level, including uniques? I understand that some uniques are rarer than others and some are limited to maps - that's cool - but that junk has no business dropping from the endboss of the regular campaign imo. There is some benefit to the lower powered uniques dropping my higher level content, higher Ilevel means they can have more sockets which is never a bad thing.

One of the OB patches was to increase the low level unique drops but to reduce the high level unique drops. It is a a damn shame that Chris talks about item progression being a problem but then GGG does nothing to fix it so we all suffer with low level uniques that are useless for our high level builds. Chris should either own up and retract that statement he made a few months back or be exiled to Wraeclast for his crimes.
Seriously GGG, put some real excitement back into PoE! I'm not buying any more microtransactions until I see "A New Hope" that PoE is better than the other arpgs because GGG is an indie company and can make game changes quicker and take risks (is making PoE more enjoyable to play really taking a risk?) that the large game company devs would never be allowed to do because the corporate suits handcuff them. The D3 AH is a classic example of corporate greed ruining game play and fun. The ironic thing about PoE is that Chris and company probably feel that if they give away the farm we'll get bored with all our great gear and lose interest and quit. That may be true for a few uber elite players but the majority still playing would welcome more carrots (higher quality uniques and rares more often) and not get bored and quit. Why, if I had more good uniques I'd need to increase my stash space to store them. I'd re-roll many new builds and try multitudes of different spell combinations knowing that the new builds had good chances to survive and work well at the high levels because I'd have the gear to support the build. Better high level gear to support our builds and our efforts to reach high levels means more build diversity and ultimately more PoE enjoyment and happy players are more likely to buy more stash space and bling. "You've got to grind, grind, grind at that grindstone..." Necessity may be the mother of invention, but poor QoP in PoE is the father of frustration. Well, I certainly agree with him that item progression is a problem. The only way to progress my main is to go on a shopping spree. Because it sure as hell won't be from drops the way things go, so I'm off playing alts that at least now and then find an upgrade or can use hand-me-downs that my main grinds up for them heh.

" From my experience when you play self-found you will find upgrades quite constantly. On the other hand when you buy some good things for your character it is way harder to find replacements to those. |

Do high level Uniques even drop in regular gaming areas due normal playing? I mean outside of 24/7 High Level Map grinding.
Even in maps, only low end Uniques drop there, and usualy always the same ones. I suspect that the drop chances for uniques differ alot from Unique to Unique. GGG knows exactly what uniques are good (rare) and what are crap (common) it seems. ;) |

Well, considering some of the best leveling gear is common, thus, not crap, I'd be willing to bet their system is more complex than yours :)
The benefit besides higher socket count, is for allowing players to get good unique to help with leveling for the reroll. I'm not certain how many tiers of unique exist, but some are too rare with how interesting they are. See Chomber Chamber |

Uniques have to drop for everybody because otherwise they will never saturate the market and thus will be too expensive. Since many uniques are build-enabling, they must be abundant, so niche builds are not ridiculously expensive to create. Can you imagine how much Voll's chest would cost if it dropped for only people level 40-50, let's say? It'd cost an exalted or more, probably, because it would seldom drop because people seldom stay in that level range for long.
Removing common uniques from the pool wouldn't suddenly make you richer, nor would they make better uniques drop more often, at least, from how I understand the system works. It would maybe make uniques better from Inner Treasure monsters, but that's about it, I think. The solution to loot and progression honestly has nothing to do with low level uniques and everything to do with the fact reaching Merciless at times requires you to grind Fellshrine or the Docks for ages and ages and ages. If anything, we need more kinds of common uniques, so players can more easily progress to maps and find good rares (since most uniques are good for leveling and jumping past certain hurdles in content). Imagine if there were more level 40-50 common uniques - these items would probably good for getting out of that progression pit and into maps.
