Is it legal to edit the Content.ggpk file?
Hey. I've been considering to edit the Content.ggpk file in the POE folder in order to edit some sounds and textures to help identify certain objects and events. However before digging into it, I want to make sure whether it's legal or not. I haven't been able to find it being mentioned anywhere.
Thanks! |

I just dyed my hair pink, and I haven't had a visit from Kriparrian yet. Did I do it wrong?

It's legal in the UK.
Legality of such activities depend on which country you live in.

The above should not and can not be seen as legal advice. If you need legal advice please talk to a lawyer.
Is it against the ToS? That's a completely different question. Brutus. Do you even sync? Dernière édition par AnnanFay#3468, le 7 juil. 2013 à 09:39:23

Seems like you know perfectly well what I mean. I referred to the law of POE.(yes the ToS). Now can someone please answer the question?
Thanks |

Probably not. But at the same time GGG probably don't care if you do it, not sure if they could detect it either. You can't really get much of an advantage through texture editing, maybe making chaos and puncture mobs to be bright pink or something, but that's about it.

AFAIK the client does a hashcheck at every startup. if it fails, it enters patching mode, and downloads latest version -> there goes your modification, and some (much?) time </thinking> edit:typo Dernière édition par chipetke#4401, le 7 juil. 2013 à 10:28:11

" It may check hashes but it doesn't do anything about it if they are wrong. The game still loads and plays just fine, unless you try to edit something that is actually important to gameplay and security, like the map generation graphs, editing those will result in a "terrain generation is out of sync" error when you log in. It doesn't do anything about swapped models or edited textures though. |

Well...
" So, if NZ law says you can't then you can't. Couldn't find anything about this online though. It would probably come under reverse engineering law though. " So, they can ban you if they feel like it. " That only applies to the website ;) The first part says you can't adapt Materials... other than in accordance with the Licence. Which doesn't really say anything. @chipetke, oBLACKIECHANo You're right. It's quite easy to do a hash check then update the modified files. Most games do this, though Poe doesn't :) There's a few groups which have translation patches which need to be applied after every update cycle. This has been mentioned several times in the forum and wasn't removed. However if you talk too much about map hacks, etc. it gets removed. Brutus. Do you even sync? Maybe mail support and ask them if it's allowed. Or wait for a reply here.
