Skyrim is a great solo game, you should try it.

that's pretty off topic but okay...

I tried skyrim, don't like it at all, I don't enjoy open world games like it or mass effect, dragon age etc.

offline mode was requested many times since I've been here and I know GGG answer is no but no one ever suggested this as far as I know.

seriously, this could work!! Plus having the game on steam would make it more visible and increase it's popularity.

how come this particular thread does not raise interest?

First off, I completely support GGG in their decision to NOT add an offline mode, if it prevents people from gaining knowledge on how to compromise the safety of the online mode.

That being said, if Offline Mode was ever implemented, I'd say:
- It still requires internet connection in order to validate Login
- It is buy to play like Diablo 2 (not pay to play like WoW)
- You are given a Key, then register that key to your account, and voila, you can login.

Technically, it'd still be online.
Practically, it'd be offline because you wouldn't be in a "multiplayer" world, you would have saves in your computer, and you'd be able to do all sorts of stuff, like messing with save files, etc.

here are the differences between having PoE on steam and having online characters on steam cloud

what we have: -game on the server
-characters on our PCs

what we can have: -game on our pc
-multiplayer characters on the servers (or steam cloud)

both protect multiplayer gaming from cheating

the first does not allow you to mod/cheat but your solo character is the same as your group one.

the second does allow mods/cheats but you need to make a separate character for online.

you can still play alone if you wish with your online character

there's no downside to this (that I'm aware of)

Can't a dev please give feedback on this?
There are downsides, you just don't see them.
I already told wich ones.
Offline mode implies everything being run on your computer.
Your PC is doing everything - calculations, etc.
Wich means hackers can figure out the data they need to manipulate to obtain the desired results.

So an OFFLINE mode, makes it easier for hackers to figure out ways to cheat ONLINE.

But because multiplayer characters are online only, any sort of hacks would be spotable right? I'm just saying this based on the tooltip of the pic I posted in my OP.

If it was still possible to cheat, then why would they bother making solo offline while multi is online, it should work right?

I know what you are saying but maybe this method could fix that.
The main reason this game doesn't have an offline mode is because the developers want you to be able to play any character either solo or multiplayer at any time. Online characters would need to be completely segregated from offline characters to prevent modding and cheating making their way into the online experience.

If you can convince GGG that enough people want to play an offline character and would never ever ever be upset if they thought "man this guy would be kick-ass in a group" and realized that was impossible, and had to play the entire game without ever trading with anyone or being able to access their online stash from their offline character, MAYBE the mode could be enabled.

Just kidding. Online-only for POE is also DRM. The game may be free to play, but GGG is still a company and the only way they make money is if you buy things for POE. Offline play would let you mod and hack-in whatever you wanted with no money to them. I'm pretty sure because of this they also take a strict stance against modders and would order shutdown of private servers and take legal action against those or anyone who hacked the game to run offline. It's pretty standard for games set up like this.

POE will be online-only from now until it becomes abandonware. Don't waste any more breath asking for otherwise because it's not going to happen.

god fucking damnit there's always something, damn, I forgot about the microtransactions, maybe it could still work if solo players were not allowed to use them but meh, It would be wasting my breath again like you said.

Spoiler

pardon my language, I am quite upset because I though I found the solution to make offline possible.
