Using 4 ascendency points and 4 gem slots on the Golems "just" for the defenses is a high price imo. I have been toying around in the PoB getting rid of some Lightning damage notes and adding minion damage notes and the Spiritual Aid note. It is possible to add alot of damage to the golems without loosing damage yourself.
