Is anything been done about the terrible lag while playing on a mac?

I've made it to level 30 but the fps lag is getting ridiculous now.

Is there anything i've overlooked to improve performance? every post i've seen on the forum seems to be complaining about the lag on macs but no solution has come out yet? or am i just missing something?

All my settings are on the lowest possible yet the game still locks up and freezes for 30 seconds at a time. Would running the game from bootcamp make it run like a normal pc?

Appreciate any help at all, very desperate now.

Regards
Bootcamp is the only way to get full support.

The game is still in beta and will probably not see any improvements for other platforms until after release.

I wasn't aware there was a Mac version.. so you're either running via an emulator, or bootcamp.

Emulators such as parallels and vmware fusion are crap for anything requiring decent gaming graphics. Bootcamp is by far the best route to go if you want to play games on Apple hardware.
My question is though, ive seen friends run this game absolutely fine on pc. if i ran bootcamp and tried it off my mac, would it run the same as pc? as this would mean purchasing bootcamp for this sole reason. I.e. is it a mac hardware issue or software?

You don't "purchase" boot camp. It comes packaged with OS X. You simply need a copy of Windows to install.

PoE should run as well on Windows on a mac as it would on a non-mac with similar specs.

First, virtualization is not emulation.

WINE is neither.

Also, there is an official thread on this..

I've played since last September on a Macbook laptop, via Bootcamp. It ran fine on the lowest settings, but I could definitely not group up with full parties or I would get 10-30 seconds of complete freeze every time the group ran into large packs of mobs. Recently bought a higher end PC and the difference is pretty amazing!

If I try to run the game via the unofficial "port" from that thread, all i can basically do is stand around in town and watch trade channel, because as soon as I step into any other zone my FPS drops to unplayable levels.

I would recommend trying Bootcamp - as was already mentioned, it's already pre-packaged on your Mac, no need to buy anything (other than Windows). You'll also need Service Pack 2 (or later), if I recall correctly, I remember I had a few issues with updating Windows to a compatible version before I could run the game successfully.

Bonne chance!

As you pointed to Wikipedia, let me return the favor.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtual_machine

"
A virtual machine (VM) is a software implemented abstraction of the underlying hardware, which is presented to the application layer of the system. Virtual machines may be based on specifications of a hypothetical computer or emulate the computer architecture and functions of a real world computer.

Going back to the original question, alot is going to depend on what Mac you're using, and what video hardware it has. If it's an iMac or Mac Pro, chances are fairly good it has something better than low end Intel 3000 or Intel 4000 graphics. However, if it does have the later 2, don't expect much in the way of gaming performance, even under Bootcamp.

The Price for refurbished PCs has dropped significantly. They also come pre-loaded with windows. You can get a mid-range dell optiplex for $140

Toss in a $60 ePCI video card and you would be good to go. I’m not sure of OP computer specs, but for 200 + shipping you can get a pre-loaded windows computer that can run the game with no issues.
