Toggle switch to prevent leveling up a skill gem

I've been sifting through the forums for a while and I haven't seen this suggested, which is not to say that it hasn't been.

I like the improvements that are being made to call attention to skill gems that are ready to be leveled up. One thing that I would love to see included in the overall direction of skill gems is the ability to toggle a lock to prevent accidentally leveling up a skill gem that you wish to keep at its current level.

The first example that comes to mind to illustrate what i am talking about is with the currently extremely useful Hatred gem.

Let's say i am making a Strength based character with 1 of the +30 dex passives to let me get Hatred and level it up a few times. Now as I get to higher levels I end up wearing some gear that maybe has some dex on it as well. This would enable me to level Hatred beyond the 34 dex I passively have. But if at a later point I "upgrade" my gear and get rid of the dex, I can no longer use my Hatred gem =(

The ability to lock the skill with a toggle switch at a specific level would have prevented me from accidentally leveling it up when I didn't actually want to.

I agree and support this as well. I'd hate to accidentally click and level a gem that I dont want to. There should be a way to lock it in place.

It would be nice, but a different colour + button that lets you know that if you level up the skill gem, you would be relying on gear to use it would be more useful for me

Maybe they could have a currency item that toggles whether the gem can be upgraded. So it would also introduce another property on each gem.

Instead of normally left-clicking on the + sign to lvl the gem. You have to right-click the + sign.
I don't know if it's possible to restart upgrading the gem after this though.

there is a toggle to not have a gem lvl anymore.... you can right click the gem when its ready to lvl and it wont show up to be leveled anymore on the side of your screen! and then the gem can only be leveled in your inv screen at the bottom! if you so chose to want to lvl it further later! \m/
