Game crashes with tons of exception error pop ups

This is a crash that has popped up at random times during the development of POE, and I am experiencing it again here since I returned to play in the new league. I know 1 year ago these same exception errors would occur when you closed the game, and ggg admitted it was a known bug and they eventually fixed it. The exception errors are identical to that, except I am getting them in the middle of playing now. I can be just standing in town, or clearing a zone when BAM it just happens. I get dozens of these popups that make you hit "OK" about 100 times then the game crashes out to desktop. Ive already run pack check, ran file verification on steam, and tweaked some graphics settings to see if it helps. Problem is, it often takes a few hours of playing to happen, so its a long reproduction cycle. I have a really beefy system running an RTX 2080 and the latest drivers. I would say the possibility of a hardware problem would be slim as I can play other games or benchmarks for hours on end without any crash or issue. Im more soe trying to find out if this is perhaps a known issue atm, or something other people are experiencing? Ill keep trying to track it down.

I have the same problem with my 2080ti. The game is crashing many times with the same error message.

Driver issues maybe? Are you both running the latest version of your graphics drivers especially?

Also, this one's a shot in the dark, but have you installed the latest .net framework as well? I always install the latest .net framework, as many Internet-based games and applications seem to depend on it these days. Use Google (or perhaps DuckDuckGo if you're concerned about web tracking) to find both these applications.

Any luck solving this?
I'm also currently having the same Problem.
I tried updating my drivers.
I also deleted my content ggpk and reloaded a new one using the installer.
But after awhile, it happened again, this time i couldn't even start the game, but with same exception errors..
@EngrDayo @WallaceTX @krazymagic

@krazymagic have u installed POE on an SSD? OR HDD. And in case of the SSD, how much space is left on it (minimum 20% for performance reason)? Further, have your other problems with other triple A games? And have you tried to roll back the Nvidia driver a couple of versions with DDU? ~2 days ago, on the reddit, people reported problems with the newly released Nvidia driver.

Also, Disable the Geforce Experience in the Nvidia driver (has been reported to be a performance hog by some). And have a detailed look through the Nvidia drivers if something is On that does not need to be on. I never used Nvidia, so would not know what to point you towards.

Google "POE exception error", it is a known error.

Please take a screenshot of your "Exception" error(s) to keep track if you get the same (file/line) or always new ones. Also there are different kinds of Exception errors: https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/73322

EOUTOFMEMORY or Unable to Map File or Unable to MapViewOfFile

or A message relating to game files.

1. no MTX (to be sure), no macros (to be sure).

2. DX11 if you can run DX11 (3.6 will only run DX11).

3. If your system is able to run 64bit, run (use) the 64bit.exe in the POE folder. Steam and the Standalone client actually should select these from the Desktop shortcut automatically if the system can run the 64bit.exe, but I have not heard a confirmation from GGG TechSupport about that.

4. PackCheck the Steam or Standalone Client files. Will take longer on HDD! Also depends on the fragmentation of files and bad sectors on the HDD (see below "run defrag") https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/18531

If you run POE from an HDD. (btw SSD is much better performance wise and you don't get FPS dips and Frame Time spikes loading assets in between)

1. Uninstall POE, empty trash, restart the PC.

2. Test the health of your HDD with a SMART test, your HDD manufacturer should have on their website a free tailored tool to download. Same applies for SSD btw, you can check the health of your SSD with the manufacturer's tool. ( https://www.maketecheasier.com/check-hard-disk-health-windows/ )

3. Run defrag on your HDD. ( https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/17126/windows-7-improve-performance-defragmenting-hard-disk ).

4. Install POE on the newly defragmented HDD. Follow up with a PackCheck to be sure.

There are known cases that installations can be corrupted: "If a fresh copy of the game is still having errors, this usually means that your Internet Service Provider (ISP) is sending you a corrupted copy of the game files" ... https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/73322

If you need further assistance, please post your FULL PC specs. And post your DXdiag txt report (Windows Key + X > Run "dxdiag") as a pastebin link (pastebin.com) for easier readability (keeps the formatting).

So I'm buying a new SSD, 500GB, plenty of space since my computer is too old to play most modern AAAs. That should change the ratio from 20-25% available to 20-25% used.

We'll see if it helps. Oddly, this problem disappeared for about three weeks and then started recurring a couple of days ago.

And I had thought underclocking my videocard was what finally fixed it, but unfortunately that didn't last forever. We'll see if a new SSD with much more space helps.

After that... :(

A new SSD should not be needed if your SSD is healthy (use your manufacturer's tool to check for health (eg Western Digital https://support.wdc.com/downloads.aspx?p=279&lang=en ). And has enough space free (~20%).

The 20% free space recommendation is for performance reason only (which I explained in detail here: https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/2327557/page/1#p16228200 ), which has nothing to do with POE producing Exception errors, again, if your SSD is healthy.

As already mentioned, keep track with screenshots what type of exception errors you get, as there are different kinds, relating to different problems (Read the Common Technical Problems, which I quoted!)

You can post them here via imgur link.

btw/PS: some people were able to resolve the problem after a new installation of Windows. Don't know if you want to go that far.

You also never mentioned if you used PackCheck or did uninstall the game, empty trash, restart PC, install the game new (Steam or Standalone Client). Plus the other suggestions, no MTX, no macros. DX11. 64bit.

Hi.
i suck with this Exception error since Patch 3.5.c
You can read my crying here:
https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/2253464/page/2#p16008570

But i copy here the more important part:

These I wrote in December 2018
https://i.imgur.com/uCj8RJ9.png

And also effecting my incursion. When i stepped into the map with Alva, the game froze. Then i restarted the game and went to the Summit map (from where Alva opened her portals), then froze... on Summit.

What i tried, but did not help:
- ran packcheck.exe and even did it the steam version as well.
- deleted the config file
- changing resolution and modes between windowed/fullsc.windowed/fullscreen
- Re-installed the game
- with cccleaner checked and fixed registry problem - by WWJD, as he advised here: https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/2267227
- another idea by BrunoBacsh: Go to your folder where POE is install, find both clients: PathOfExile_x64Steam.exe and PathOfExileSteam.exe. Properties, tab Compatibility, check Disable fullscreen optimizations, check Run this program as an administrator, and check Run this program in compatibility mode for: and select Windows 7, do this in both executables."

Today i wrote to GGG techsupport but they replied:
"Unfortunately we are unable to offer technical support currently, due to limited staff resources. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may cause."

I still have the problem, but at least GGG replied, that they might check.

Update 2.:
GGG replied to defragment my HDD and save space for game. (my HDD always is good condition and has space).
Also told me to try with SSD. (I dont have money for SSD)

Thats all :(

Too late, friend, the SSD is already on it's way, to arrive tomorrow.

It's DirectX 11 Exception error Error 2005270523, usually "unable to create index buffer".

I haven't tried a health check of the drive yet, good point.

I've tried many things:

standalone and Steam

Admin mode

Compatibilty Mode > Windows 7 and Disable Fullscreen optimizations
DDU to remove Nvidia drivers, clean up, and then installed an older driver version

Disable multithreading

Power mode in Nvidia control panel to "Prefer Maximum Performance"

Deleted production config.ini, used a backup file. I do notice this file is often at 7KB when the crashes start... but not always. The backup always starts at 6KB.

Deleted POE shader cache folders

Ran Windows /SFC

Underclocking videocard processor and memory by 10%.

Disabling MTX (that should never be required, though, I mean what a kick in the teeth)

I have not tried reinstalling Windows 10, this time. However, this is in fact a new Windows 10 installation as my last SSD crashed. So it's occured on two separate installs. Very possible my motherboard has something to do with it.

I just wish GGG devs would chime in. There are a lot of these threads, and players are relying on other players' suggestions, but nobody seems to know the root of the error. :(

I sincerely appreciate your stepping in on a lot of these and trying to help, friend. <3

Google says it is a longstanding albeit rare known error.

Some suggested (20 min looking through threads):

I solved it by reducing my resolution.
I have an ultra wide 3440x1440.

The recommended solution to this by GGG is to

1. Delete your "production_config" file in "documents/my games/path of exile."
2. Delete all the "Cache" folders in "My Games/Path of Exile"
3. Reinstall DirectX by going into your Installation Folder "C:\Program Files\GGG\Path Of Exile\Redist" and running the installer.

This cured the constant crashes for me. Everyone has some random "trigger." But the root cause has to do with the old config file not working with the latest version. (I believe.)

Exceptions can occur for a variety of reasons however. But I do believe the majority are related to the config file.

Tried this, crashed within 5min.

f:\buildslave\build\production\source\windows\visual\device\d3d11\vertexbuffered3d11.cpp at line 24

These errors have been occurring this entire league, but I have never seen them before.

Production config was also mentioned here: https://www.reddit.com/r/pathofexile/comments/7thoij/for_players_having_issues_with_the_unable_to/

https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/2050168/page/4#p15408101 that would be the devil in the detail if POE does not like a specific GPU frequency:

igpu 1575 -> 1550 mhz fixed it for me. I can very easily break it again just by increasing igpu frequency by 25 mhz (smallest step). it's funny but primes95 and other stress test was stable at 1575 and PoE failed anyway :)

I had these problems with my 980 Ti (iChill black from Inno3D) and had similiar problems in Witcher 3 and Elite:Dangerous, while other Gamess (Overwatch) and stability tests never showed problems.

I got 4 crashes in 6 hours of playtime and can only work around that with a modified GPU Bios, that lowers the clock from 1340/1430 MHz to 1000/1000 Mhz that lowers performance by 35%. I played 20 hours without crashes with that modified Bios, however it is very unsatisfying :-(

Temperatures and Power Consumption do not indicate any issues.
