using power charge on critical strike with herald of ice

My character is elementalist

Herald of Ice has no Crit chance of it´s own as far as I know.
You would need to link it with Critical Strike Chance for it to even be able to crit. Since you are trying to rely on an on death effect to create your charges I´d reccommend going for Herald of Ice , Curse on Hit, Assassins mark Setup. I´ve used this setup before and it creates power charges reliably enough as long as you shatter enemies frequently. |

Herald of Ice, by itself, does not have any chance to crit. You would have to give it some, for example through Increased Critical Strikes support.
Assuming you do so, any time Herald of Ice (i.e. the explosions when you shatter an enemy) crits a monster, you will have a chance of getting a power charge. |

If you can spare the links id recommend an orb of storms power charge on crit setup. Its easy to drop as you map and allows you to generate charges vs bosses where as herald of ice requires mobs to kill.

No but what does work is assassins mark linked to HoI if you shatter with HoI. Usually only works in sub 14 maps with your DPS.
