I have just spent 11h just to discover that the interaction that I was building around is bugged

I'm trying to make a cast while channeling Discharge build using Occultist's Forbidden Power. But you can't gain power charges while channeling from Forbidden Power. It will still cont the mana that you spend while channeling but you have to stop and start to gain the power charge.

maybe when you channel it's still counting the total even if >200 mana is spent in the initial channeling. the fact that it works after you stop channeling feel to me like I'm correct.

try power charge on crit (depending on the type of spell you are channeling), or on an orb of storms along with a curse setup(if not dual curseing like a good occultist should be). Casting this BEFORE you start channeling should gain you power charges while you channel.

A similar alternative I've discovered is using Romira's Banquet with an Incinerate>CWC>Discharge setup. Incinerate has 0% base crit and will not drop your power charges and can also apply EE for the lightning discharges.
I hope you'll be able to salvage it, it sounds like a pain in the ass to put in all the work for nothing.

Before every league, I make a build in poe then have my lawyer look over it. He will tell me what I can and cannot do, and what certain effects mean and figure out whether or not a description is a figure of speech or a literal meaning. He will also tell me the statutory limits that exist in my build like cooldowns, stackability, shotgun-ability, and coc-ability that aren't written anywhere. Just like the law: Ignorance doesn't excuse you from the law no matter how fucking stupid it is.

Been there, done that. Channeling skills unfortunately have always worked this way. I agree this should change, and I agree they need to change Occultist's Forbidden Power to not say "total" mana, because as it is, if you cast a spell that costs 1,000 mana, you will still only gain a single power charge. And in that case, what's really the point of this ascendancy passive? (This is still reported incorrectly on the PoE wiki Power Charge page.)

I would have never thought that's what it meant. They need to either change the wording or change how it works, jesus.

Is it too late to change your build? There's lots of stuff you can do with Forbidden Power. They made it way more powerful in the 3.2 patch.

Worth noting, after you make sure your build is legal, you then need to make sure its ethical. Consult a philosopher or ProjectPT and make sure you are playing the game as god intended.

To reliably generate power charges through normal play. Any self caster will spend 200 mana every 10s or so easily.

What is the point of power charges tho? Not much ATM XD but anyway its still good if you want power charges.
