How much does curse effectiveness help?
With my tree I can take all the curse effectiveness nodes or I could drop Hex Master and Skittering Runes clusters and take more life nodes to give me about 400 more life according to PoB.
My curses will be temp chains, enfeeble, and despair on an essence drain build. Is the extra 30% curse effectiveness with enfeeble and temp chains better than an extra 400 life? I should have around 6k life total once I finish the build and get the right gear. I'm mainly wondering vs bosses as the trash mobs shouldn't matter. Thank you Dernier bump le 9 déc. 2017 à 11:09:49

Since I'm not sure how you're going to get 3 curses a word of warning - if you're planning on playing ED Occultist, do NOT take the curse branch. The first node will prevent contagion from spreading your essence drains when the cursed mobs explode, it's a very harsh anti-synergy.
The second thing to be aware of is that curses are only 40% effective against normal bosses and only 20% effective against shaper/guardians. This is multiplicative with curse effect on the tree. So what this means is if you get the 30% increased curse effect, your curses are 26% effective against shaper and 52% effective against regular bosses. You can see how this plays out for damaging curses in PoB, it's rarely worthwhile imo and defensive curses will be just as gimped against bosses. What I found worked well in Harbinger with my Essence Drainer was to drop all investment in curses and just run enfeeble with grace and some evasion on gear and the tree to get a total of about 9k evasion. I was far tankier with this set up than I was with full curse effect and both enfeeble and temp chains running. I wouldn't necessarily go for extra life over the evasion, but it's up to you. |

" I see, but I wonder if the 26% effectiveness of enfeeble and temp chains combined since I would be using both would be better than say 50% chance to evade(up from 32%) using only enfeeble and grace, seeing how enfeeble lowers damage(less prone to being one shot) and temp chains slows would give more time to get life back. My thought are if I can keep the amount I am hit few and far between and not get one shot then I have time to gain life back. I really don't know how to calculate curse effectiveness or to see the actual damage reduction or slow effect on bosses |

Path of Building can help you keep an overview of what your curses are doing. It should include the effective coefficients for the enemies' damage and attack / cast speed. I usually use offensive curses in my builds so I'm not 100% sure.
Running Blasphemy on Enfeeble or Temp Chains can be a considerable boost to survivability, so I wouldn't discount that effect for non-bosses, even if it's not essential for your build. |

If curse nodes gave more curse effect instead of curse duration which none cares about then they would be worth taking. At this point you are better taking something else. Hex master cluster is decent if you run blasphemy for the bonus radius, but those nodes are usually not worth picking until you are lvl 100 and have all your points.

" How bad is this actually? I was thinking about going exactly that route. Perception is reality.

Curse effectiveness is EXTREMELY useful for map clearing, like essential if you're going to plan on having curses as main defense.
You can get 50% curse effectiveness total and a crapton of AoE for your blasphemies. This leds to a 45% slow temportal chains and a 45% less damage enfeeble with something like 45 radius which covers 70% of the screen and usually affects ranged monsters too I had a BLight Occultist in Harbinger with max curse effectiveness with your same curse, he was literally untouchable. If you can go for Evasion gear too, 4-5k evasion and the huge accuracy reduction from enfeeble will grant you a nice evasion chance (with Stibnite you're untouchable too) As others said, against bosses curses lose effectiveness, but regular bosses are still affected noticeably imo, shaper/guardians however have too much curse resistance to see a noticeable effects |
