What should my DPS be around act 8/9?

I destroy gold and blue and normal mobs, but when it comes to a boss I have to level.. and just death surge my way to the end of the battle after dying 20-30 times..

Currently sitting with 1500-1600ish DPS with Tornado Shot and Blast Rain and still with 4L items and no 5l yet. I can continue on this route for now but mehhhh....

Anything that could instantly get me some benefits? Any certain items I should farm? I am a ranger... and I noticed I threw away a signal fire i got early on.. What should I chance orb/alchemy orb roll? Im around gear level 60-62 atm...

You should not worry about your dps at this stage. Just trudge through the act content until you can reach maps and worry about it then. Zerg rushing is very common with these overturned act bosses, particularly the one for act 10. It is not unusually or "bad".

Any upgrades you buy now will be obsolete in a few levels later. But if you really have to, spend 1 chaos on some upgrades for your rares.

Well, just to bring some perspective, i personally just beat act10, lvl69 with 23.000 dps on Earthquake.
So i would definitely say that your dps is very low.

Well, my highest lvl character - 78, makes 38 k dps with freezing pulse /buff with Herald of Thunder, support gems + ice and lighting golem/. So i Think it's good on Act 8/9 acts to have around 15-20 k dps and up. But this is only my opinion.

My Stormcaller only had about 1.5-3k dps through acts 8/9/10 and I'd consider it on the edge of do-able. Only place she had trouble and died was with the Act 10 boss. She did have 4-5k EHP though, so while you have around the same damage I did, you might not have the life pool.

Given that ranged is inherently going to be fairly safe while bosses force you into small confined spaces, it's always going to be a change in how things work (unless you've just got the damage to obliterate them before you need to worry about mechanics).

There is certainly a huge difficulty spite between normal mod & Bosses. We all expect bosses to be tougher, but in the new acts, tehy are just a big too overtuned.


I think GGG went a bit overkill also with the secondary damage/traps. They hit often harder than the boss main attacks, & can be fatal even with huge life pool. There is even a Resident evil (movie) lazer trap boss fight that seems more out of sci-fi.

I understand GG do not want us to facetank every boss, but I think they overkill & fighting many bosses feel like playing super mario.

Having said that death Zerging is a very negative impact on gameplay experience, & 20-30 seems too much even with the overtune bosses.

1500dps is extremely low, make worest you have survival issue. I am now act 10 (level 69 or so) & my 4 linked-Sunder is doing 12-15K DPS, 25kish with buff on (give and take) & I put alot of points to suvival than damage.

maybe consider using one of the vender recipe to craft a decent bow or buy one on PoE.Goods.

Also opening a portal, & go back & fore to town to refresh flask helps also. The 1st thing I do in a boss fight is to open a portal.

Alright, OP, don't listen to these 25k DPS guys. It is not uncommon to have that much DPS with your final build at lvl 85+ and GG items. Different builds and skills have different expectations for damage.

I finished 10acts with about similar DPS as you, maybe just a bit more. What I'm guessing you have trouble with is HP pool. I'm guessing you're playing Ranger, which is hard to have decent HP and even damage with as well. So just try to power through, you'll die many times, but once you get to maps or around level 68, you can buy very cost-effective items that will help you drastically.

I cleared act 10 fairly easily @ Lvl 75 raider elemental buzzsaw w/ 2700 - 3300 dps. Dps aside, I would put more focus on defence and survival - max resistances, fast attack with ok leach, flasks to cure bleeding/burning/curses etc...
